Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 comments?

Considering buying a Mesa Boogie 5:25 amp, based on what I'm
seeing/hearing online.

I know that's lame, but I live in a rural area where I can't drive to
a Guitar Center down the road to check one out. I also realize I'll
have to do just that to pick one up, so thought I'd ask others what
their thoughts are before making the hike. The reviews/etc are fairly
glowing. It'll be used for practice and just general messing around
at home.

Seems rather pricey for a 1x10 amp with 25W max, but at the same time
I tend to spout off about getting what you pay for. Is that the case
here? I hope so. :D

TIA

I bought one, then took it back to the shop after a couple of days. Killer
OD sound, as you would expect from Mesa. The clean channel was beautiful and
chimey, but way too noisy for my tastes. My tech mate tried some different
tubes, but that just made it worse, so it seemed very picky over tubes. I
bought a Hughes and Kettner Statesman Dual EL84 instead.

I played through one at a store for quite a while. I think it's one hell
of an excellent amp. mvm

Oh, I thought it sounded fantastic, but I knew the noise on the clean
channel would turn me right off it after the initial honeymoon was over. It
was sold to a local recording studio just a few days after I returned it.

I played through a whole lotta amps at "a store." Unfortunately
amps can behave a whole lots differently on the job. A store audition
do not a gig make.

Now I said that, a booger 5:25 is a purty good "store" amp but it's
a little too pricey to suit me. BTW, runnin' that suckah through a
good 12" helps the sound immensely, but it still costs too much. I
only take disposable amps to gigs because that's the way it's gotta
be.

My advice? Collect a few Vibro Champs, pedal up front for effects,
mic 'em, and pocket the savings.

Lemme get this straight - Have you actually purchased a Mesa 5:25?
Unless you bought one you're just a simple poseur. Assuming you own
one (heh) do you gig with it?

Laugh away, it's your right. But, typically, you continue to pose
and obfuscate the real truth which is that, like me, you also didn't
by a 5:25. Kind of ironic for a critter whut calls itself
"truth~seeker," but in reality is a bargain basement west coast
poseur.

The Lone Star Special is another KILLER great amp! I own a Fender Tweed
Bassman R.I. and a MusicMan HD210 One*Fifty. I like stereo chorus and
other stereo effects in my tone, so I play through two amps or record
in stereo through two channels.

The Lone Star Special, 5:25 or 5:50, or any of the BadCat Class A line
are excellent amps. I also love the old MB Mark IV.

Do you use the Bassman in stereo with the Boogie?

What settings work best with both...

While I had it, I stereod my Bassman with a Pignose G40V and adding a
little extra gain from this for the dirt element and allowing the B59
to run clean...
