valve amp accident

Left my marshall valve amp on standby last night by mistake... i was
playing it last around 10pm, and just noticed it around 5pm the next
day, so it was on almost 20 hours...

did this do any harm? (other than shorten my tube life?)

It'll be fine - relax.

Nah. Prolly didn't shorten tube life too much, either.

Extremely unlikely. I've done that more than once with my Vox AC30
(probably because the standby and on/off switches are harder to see from
across the room than with my other amps).

My record is three days. Left it on standby on a Friday night, noticed
it the next Monday.

Unlike light bulbs, filament burnout is a rare failure mechanism for
vacuum tubes. I doubt it significantly affected tube life.

Rich, standby, AC30? Woss that then? :)

BTW any budget conscious thoughts on something that would make a decent
stand for an AC30 type amp? I was thinking maybe a discarded well built
stand for a widescreen TV would fit the bill.

Anybody already coming to a cunning (tight-fisted) solution for this
particular challenge? :)

Some of the AC30 models have them, for instance the early-90s AC30/6 TB:

There are so many variations of the AC30, it's hard for me to keep
track. I have no idea which model (and year) mine is, but on mine the
top panel is very similar, except that the positions of the vib/trem
control section and the tone control section are flipped. But this
model has the greenback speakers, as does mine, so I'm thinking mine is
a close relative.

It would have to be a really sturdy TV stand; the AC30 is a lot heavier
than most TVs that I've seen!

Okay, looks nice. Am I right in thinking I can achieve the same effect as
having a Standby by keeping the volume right down for a couple of minutes
after turning on?

Yes, and given the materials often used this would be a case where that
"glassy" sound should definitely be avoided. :)

Absolutely not... that's why there's a switch.

No, it's not equivalent, because if you just have the volume turned down
all the way you still have a high DC voltage on the tubes. The idea of
the standby switch is to allow the tubes to warm up and reach
equilibrium before the high voltage comes on.

How tight fisted?

How close are the cabinet dimensions to a current AC30?

A new Vox VS30 is ~$150 from a number of vendors here in the US.

When I was looking for one a few years ago for my '64 someone
told me that many of the originals wound up under the telly
in England, which is why they are so scarce. You might get
lucky at a yard sale or flea market. I wound up lucking into
a newish one used for mine. There's always eBay. I had to
bend the one I got a slight bit to allow the cabinet to fit...

Well, my recent Marshall 2266C combo wasn't overly an popular acquisition
with certain parties in the household, so I'm trying to keep a bit of a
low profile in terms of spending cash.

>How close are the cabinet dimensions to a current AC30?

Hmmm.... not sure, its about the same size as my 1969-72 AC30, but not
exactly.

I think anybody who know's what they're selling will be expecting a
"vintage" price for an AC30 stand, I was more looking at just a workable
solution. I saw a metal frame option in a guitar shop yesterday, much
like a guitar stand but bigger and with the supports at an angle so the
amp would be tilted up. That's one option.
