Any 57 Deluxe users ??

Hi all

Had a 59 Bassman go down and may have to rethink on a replacement. The
Bassman was too loud for dirt at home unaided, so maybe this time
think about the 57 Deluxe. Any users here? Or any clones that are
better??

It is the edgey Tweed sound I like...

Thanks

I've got a clone (Hoffman board, Ebay noname chassis, Mission cab,
Mercury iron, Jensen speaker)with a 12AY7 in V1. It was a good small
club amp. Some time after I finished it I converted the tone stack to
Brownface specs, and now it is a KILLER small club amp.

I've got a Tele with Bill Lawrence pups in it that just cries tears
through that setup. Only problem is the drummer has to bring his
lightest sticks, and the bass man has to turn waaaay down. Not that it
is a bad thing.

if you are handy with a soldering iron, a Mission Amps 5E3 kit might hit
the spot....or one of his pre-built Aurora amps.

Those Mission kits are inspiring salivation over here... goodness,
that look like fun.

unaided...have you tried;

1. Radial Engineering Tonebone (Can.)
2. Fulltone Full Drive II (USA)
3. Fulltone GT-500 ***** (USA)

Look into them!

This might be a stretch if you are in the UK but Victoria Amp of
Naperville, IL make awesome tweed clones. Check their site out at

Hi MG,

although a 5E3 (aka 57 Deluxe)is only 12-15 Watt, it's not a bedroom
amp. Paired with a halfway efficient speaker like an Alnico blue the amp
has no problem to fill a club with tone to die for. From "cleanish" to
searing dirt with the pure use of picking dynamics and the guitar
volume... once you're infected, no way to turn loose - especially with
single coil equipped guitars..
At low levels it doesn't even begin to show a small percentage of it's
capabilities. Mere dull and lifeless. My own Vicky does not get any home
use at all, *but* i take it to every jam i go. It gets plenty of use
there. BTW The use of an attenuator like a Hot plate castrates the amp.
BTDT.

For home use, i'd look into the 2-5W range, paired with a 12", or a
classic BF like amp (TB controls) with a good pedal.

just my opinion

regards

Jochen
