Give a Listen, Please

Give a Listen, Please

Well, after that offensive Guitar Center clip,
I thought I maybe should post something a bit
more tasteful.

It occurs to me that I haven't played any serious
guitar in over twenty years. It shows. I left it
as a bit of clambake, but I'll redo it later...

My buddy Rick sent me the rhythm guitar, a strat
through his Gilmore, and the drums (Addictive Drummer,
I think). I did the bass track and
the lead guitar. P-Bass direct through Lexicon Omega
into Cubase. Guitar is a Chinese Oscar Schmidt Jazz
Box into an Ardmore.

Smooooooth! Slicker than a politician's promises, made me feel like I just
got a phone number off a waitress at the Velvet Lounge. ;~)

Well, hell...that ain't half bad. ;-)

Excellent jazz tone. Chinese axe, eh? Sounds fine.
The drumming, though...that was crappola. I know
you didn't have the opportunity in this case, but when
you assemble stuff track-by-track, it's better to put the
bass down first, rather than play it against an existing
drum track. And if the drumming is lame to begin with,
the bass doesn't fare well. The guitar work, though...
you used to be quite a player. Hell, I did a 20-year
layoff, and I'm back. You can do it too. You owe
it to yourself...there's too many posers/wankers
like Mulay putting utter *shit* up. If that's what
you have *left* after laying out for 20 years - and
it's very listenable as it is - it's time to get back on
track. Go for it. ;-)

Very nice - and the drums aren't bad at all. Nice sound from the mud
hot special. I have the 335 version and they're a hell of a value. You
could work the corner lounge tonight, be playing downtown in a couple
of weeks. But don't give up your day job, your amps are too cool.

Thanks, Chuck.

The O. Schmidt is an OE40 model - an L5 knockoff.
Last year most of my guitars were stolen, and John
King came over to the house the next day and handed
it to me. He thought I shouldn't have to be without
at least some sort of Jazz Box. I've only played it
a couple of times, and haven't gotten around to changing
the pickups, or even stringing it with flatwounds.

I used to work with a dude who not only used flatwounds, he had a wound B.

Sustain *forever*, and he could bend 'em, too. I think his
high string was an .013...the axe was an L-5. I built his
amp.

Thanks for the kind words.

I do need to get off my lazy ass and start playing
again.

BTW, I was going to add a trombone track.
Thought I'd play it in Cbb Phryggin Ironicon Mode.
I just grabbed a beer instead...

You play trombone, too?

So do I, and so does Miles O'Neil.

I wouldn't say I *play* trombone...
Play at it is probably closer. Back in
High School, I was a pretty fair oboist,
so I was absolutely forbidden to play
a trombone. For some reason the boss
man thought I'd blow out my lip. Go
figure...

I've got an early 50s Olds that I mess
around with, just for kicks.

Trombone (as well as upright bass, which I also <used to> play) is *killer*
ear training.
