OT: Careful Where You Click!

What an annoying time I've just had!!

Be very careful what you click on--especially when following links
within messages. I don't often trust the links people post, even though
I do have pretty good virus protection, etc.

However....a couple of them have captured my curiosity, so I clicked on
a few over the last day or so. All of a sudden....I could no longer get
to this group on this computer! How odd!! Everything else
worked....but every time I tried to get to this group, my computer would
give me that old favorite message, saying Netscape had encountered a
problem had must be shut down.

?!?!?!?!?!

So, I finally had time to run my spyware program and behold, it found
some script that was causing the problem. The path pointed right back
to Netscape/Newsgroups.

The rest of the path info is gibberish to me....some computer geek could
probably read more into it. But, since this is the only newsgroup I
read, it's pretty obvious where I got it. Maybe it wasn't hidden in a
link....but I don't know how else I would have gotten it.

Be careful out there...

Mike

Any details on the origin?

I had a strange experience yesterday. Walked into the office, my machine was
OFF. So I restart. A little later, I'm doing something at the desk and the
machine shuts off on its own. This time, I got an error message on restart,
something to the effect of "CPU overheat." So I open the case and find that the
fins on the heat sink are completely clogged with dust! A careful vacuum and
blast of compressed air later, no more gremlins.

Mullet probably surfed some kiddy porn or gay porn site and picked up
something that attached itself to his posted links and screws up
something in some computers...
