I gotsa thingerdoodle in my DR!!!

I have no idea what this is.
Not on the schematics. It is attached between the Power and fuse
holder.

Thoughts?

It's a nucular wepan. Disarm it before they send you to Guantonamo.

I think maybe it is a variable resistor or something similar, for the
purpose of reducing filament induced hum.

That's a thermal cutoff fuse.

Surgistor... thermal cut-in, for soft start. Very crappy
technology... it *will* fail, at some point. My Heathkit
power amp had one... bypassed it with a switch after it
shit the bed.

"Thermal Protector"

http :// www .schematicheaven,com /fenderamps/cbs_45w_mstrvol_pullsw_super-pro-bmstr_rev.pdf

If it gets too hot (amp pulls too much current) it opens.

Crude overload protection, not a soft-start.

Oh well... shooting from the hip works sometimes,
sometimes not. I defer to someone that actually has
read the schem. Ignore my driveling drivel, at least
that last post.

We all make misteaks.

The CSA near the part on the print indicates it was required if the
amp was going to Canada. (FYI)

This is the print for his amp, I think:

Ok.. that makes sense :)
Mine is, by all accounts, a 77 but no MV.
If I look at the MV schematic it has the Thermal protector (didnt
think of looking at later schems)
The closest sch I can find for mine is an A1172.
Close enough for government work. Thanks for the replies :)

It is a 77, or thereabouts.. The bias control says so. Where do you
live? That's a Canadian Standards Association required part. We don't
see those around here, at least not much. It should be wired between
the power switch and the fuse holder and by the looks of where the
green wires are headed, that seems to be where she's going. It's *in*
there because Canada figures that the owner will assume that if the
fuse "fits"... Similar to old Ampegs having an internal "pigtail"
fuse. If it ever opens, throw an insulated jumper across it and keep
going.

Before you go, you ought to toss Larry @ schematic heaven and the
Fender Amp Field Guide guy that pic. Seriously. Just e-mail it to them
& tell them what it is. That has to be the first the net has seen. Do
it.
