Tube advice

I need tube advice, what tubes can replace a 6L6 without being biased in a
guitar amplifier, and what is the sound difference?. Is there a good source
to find out this information?

Change so much as BRAND and you need re-biasing. Plus, the tubes need to
be matched. Reference source for switching-

Interesting.

I always associated PN amps as those little SS noise warts.

yet a smaller package:

Just noticed... this amp has a MV. For jazz, the master volume
must be turned all the way up, then the regular volume used
to control the amp. This may be the whole problem.

Nah, the whole problem is that in the combo configuration (I've got one .. I
know) that amp is one of the least warm amps on the planet. I wound up
putting a cap to roll off treble on a plug in the insert jacks ... I don't
even remember the value ... and that helped a little. But in that teeny
cabinet, that amp can sterilize gnats with it's high end. It's much better
in the low gain mode, and as you say, the master should be cranked and the
preamp volume down. It's also best with humbucking pickups, but if the op
wants a warm fluffy tone, that isn't the amp.

BTW .. your response was OK, IMO, and if the OP had lurked a while he'd have
seen the humor.

I don't believe we ever got a good description of what he
*did* want... 'jazz', maybe dixieland?

I learned to make it more apparent... I hope we find out
if he got what he wanted. I'm still against smileys, mostly....
Jonathan Swift didn't need 'em.

on that one, for jazz, other than doing some internal mods, you're gonna
need to change the first preamp tube (v1)to a lower output type such as
5771 (my personal taste), or 12at7 (for even lower gain). On this amp, I
also like to use a 12at7 in the second preamp tube position (V2). The
stock speaker also sucks. This amp has a high gain preamp design. But
it also has a High/Low selector switch that cuts the input gain in half.
Set it to low. That ought to give you the jazz tone you want - I
doubt that changing the power tubes will provide the effect you're
looking for.

What tubes? What amplifier? Help Us, Help You...
jeez.

And what is your excuse for not paying a hard-working
tech for his valuable services? Cheap bastard? Live
out in boonies? Stupid?

I am disabled, it is extremely hard for me to travel. I must hire a person
to drive. I live in a very rural area in West Virginia. Music is my only
joy in life. Sorry for bothering everybody.

OK, 'live out in boonies' is an acceptable excuse...
sorry you didn't get the humor of my last paragraph.
We grow skins thick around here... you'll notice that
I *did* leave you an out.

At your level of expertise, your best bet is going to
be shipping the amp to a tech... that is, unless you
would enjoy doing the work yourself, which I doubt.
Your amp works, it just doesn't sound quite right...
these are the things that a tech is most valuable for.

Open response to Stephen Cowell;

The more I think about your response to my request for help, the more
disappointed and dismayed I am in your response. I thought the objective of
these chat rooms was to share knowledge and aid to others with less
knowledge, regardless of their level of expertise. That is why I posed the
question here. I didn't really expect to be denigrated or to be called
"stupid" or to be advised to take my amp to a tech. I wanted sincere advice
from experienced and knowledgeable people on the direction to explore. If I
asked a question about my computer's operation on a Microsoft chat room I
would receive a myriad of answers to my query. I know I wouldn't have been
called names and told (or intimated) I was to "cheap" to take it and have it
fixed at a repair facility. Your reply spoke volumes about your arrogance,
inflated sense of self-importance, and common civility. Perhaps you noticed
how quickly others were to respond with helpful tips and advice? You are
someone I wouldn't care to know. I would never invite you to my home to
share a bottle of wine and a dinner, I'm not sure your head would fit
through my front door.
