I just did a review of 8 distortion units, probably the most versatile
was the Tech21 Doubledrive. If I have to pick the best from what I;ve
used it is the Tech 21 Sansamp Classic or TRI-OD, both out of
production now.
Here's the link if anyone is interested in hearing how these distortions sound:

Re: THE Best Distortion in a Stomp Box

Since last posting, I picked up a Gaspedals Cam (fuzz with teeth), and
won an AMT Electronics California Sound (higher gain) on ebay. I will
put'em all on the board and have a little shoot out.

Will probably keep 3 out of the 5. I want a good fuzz, a low/mid gain
OD, and a higher gain.

That pedal sounds truly shitty IMO.

Re: THE Best Distortion in a Stomp Box

Pick up this month's issue of Guitar Player.

They have a shootout of a dozen or so such pedals. Some of the usual
suspects, and many lesser known like Skreedy and Lovepedal.

They put'em thru the paces, make good comments, describe the good, the
bad and the ugly + pricing.

Re: THE Best Distortion in a Stomp Box

Correction, 21 pedals. They don't really come to any overall
conclusions.

As stated above, they mention price, its pros, any cons, and contact
info.

So they didn't really rate them against each other. The Skreedy
Screwdriver has my attention.

Did you read it? They did point out negatives in some pedals, so it
wasn't a total fluff peice. How many are familar with Lovepedal or
Skreedy?

Most just know of the typical Boss, Digitech, MXR, Ibanez brands that
are typically carried. There is a whole other world of stuff that
leaves many of the older designs in the dust.
