Right now finishing up "Stealing God's Thunder", about
Ben Franklin and the lightning rod. That is also one hell
of a book... ties it all up together real neat. Now I need to
go back and read the Autobiography again... been a few
decades. BF was one hell of a guy... the philosophe's
philosophe. Put it on the list too... along with _1491_,
that book blew my mind. Hell, give me one of your
recommendations! You sound like a reader...

"1491" is fabulous. Here's Erickson's link:
http :// www .sas.upenn.edu/~cerickso/

If you liked that, read "Mayflower". It's a couple of years old now,
but a wonderful read.

To what extent was that boiled into the History Channel's
"The Pilgrims" late last year? Looks a lot like that. Enjoyable.

OK... it's on the list...

"[A] vivid and remarkably fresh retelling of the story of the earnest band
of English men and women who became saddled with the sobriquet of America`s
founders....[T]his is a story that needs to be continually refreshed, and
Philbrick has recast the Pilgrims for our age of searching and turmoil. He
gives what a 21st-century reader needs to find in the material: perspectives
of both the English Americans and the Native Americans. Doing so requires a
lot of reading between the lines (or in the case of the Indians reading
between nearly nonexistent lines), but informed speculation--coaxing meaning
out of inert data--is part of the job of writing history." Aspiring author,
obviously.

I hope Squanto gets some time... or Tisquantum, as he was
more aptly known.

Lots of time. One of the coolest things about the book is how well the
guy follows the Indian politics of the day, and how well he documents
English perceptions of the kingdoms they negotiated with for that
first toehold. The earliest settlers didn't consider the Indians any
differently than other nations they encountered in other parts of the
world -not so much a matter of right or wrong as simply in their way.
It took quite a while to develop the later notion of Native Americans
as an inferior race.

Only if you can get through some Franken... *that* shit
is funny, and accurate. Horowitz is a confused nutjob...
liked hanging around with the Black Panthers before he
became a neo-conservative. He smells like NewsMax.
Levin is just another radio shock-jock with a book to
sell.

of their books.

Rich, we're talking about nice, scientific books that
don't get people's dander up... why stomp in and
drop two hack volumes in our lap? Don't you have
something in the Revisionist vein for us to read?
A nice biography, perhaps? I've read some good
ones recently... the Harry S Truman one was good,
the Patton one was a page-turner (d'Este). Hell,
I'd *much* rather read my Harley service manual
or the ARRL Antenna book than those two screeds.
Does it always have to be political? We're finding
common ground, c'mon, participate! Here's one
I know you'd enjoy... _Snatching Defeat From The
Jaws Of Victory_, about colossal military fuckups.
It does dwell on Westmoreland somewhat... but
that's the era it came out.

If you buy into that Horowitz mentality, you have more
screws loose than I once imagined, Rich. Shame on you,
he's a big fucking slandering propagandizing pundit and
he's pushed your buttons. He's nothing but a fraud.

Let's cut to the quick.

Out of the three ass holes running for the office of president, all three suck.

All three are not good for this country.

All three are not good for the common man/woman.

One hangs out with anti Americans.

One wants to socialize the country.

One wants open boarders.

None of the above should ever get within feet of the White House.

When someone comes along who champions the US Constitution as the authors originally intended,
champions the rights of the common United States "citizen", and has a grip on science &
physics..... there would be someone I could get behind.

Not one of these ass holes went into the REAL issues that matter to me.

You'd think they were all cheer leaders for a football team with their... "We" have to win this and
that BS.

"WE" have to change this, create that, win this, stop that,... get the picture.

That "WE" shit ends the second they take office. Tax and spend out of my pocket is their answer,
and they WILL have their (formerly my) money in the end.

They all like to use the big business this, health care that, global warming this, economy that,
environment this, pollution that, education this, ... carrot they hang in front of you.

Then, there is the correction of some real of imagined injustice.

It's all BS and empty promises on parade, and you guys all march along in step with your champion
down the road to the ending the most successful social experiment in human history.

What, you can't see this coming.

We are a shadow of our former selves.

What made America great was our quality in manufacturing. Where is our manufacturing now, and why?

Technology has made us weak of mind, in spite of how great they say our educational system is.

Our health care system was once second to none. The politicians forced the lowering of standards to
enter med school for the minorities to the point to where there are now statistics kept on death by
medical mistakes now. Which, has out numbered the deaths by handguns. 750,000 deaths by medical
mistake in one year I remember reading on the internet was that case in point.

Yet, these politicians hold large amounts of stock in the drug companies that fuel their income.

HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "selling" and "programing" of America is non stop over the tube, the printed media, and the
internet.

The great experiment has failed because everyone wants something for nothing from this government,
and YOU will vote for those who seek great power and wealth in government on their promises of
giving you.... something for nothing.

This, under the banner of entitlements?

Where's that written... in the Constitution?

Get the duck out of here, and stop trying to sell me on your personal brand of political BS.
