Billy...adult name?

Ah, thanks for popping in, you're just the 'tart any 'n all Hell File's
need *as* a greeter, -- btw, as to your post here, it's abundantly
evident that you know these things because you tried 'n got screened out
there, too. AMF! ;-)

I know I'm going to regret asking this but what is your idea of a
great amplifier?

There is no greater amplifier than the original Silverface Twin. Name the
year, it don't matter.

Got 'em both (Silverface Twin & Marshall, in my case a JCM800). Apples
and oranges. Right tool for the right job, etc., but in a way they're
both one-trick ponies. My Vox AC30 is more versatile and smokes 'em
both, IMO. Frequency of repair is a different story, though ;-)

They're both nice amps and both one trick ponies. A Twin will do all
the things a Marshall cannot do well and vice versa.

Anyone who says amp X is the best amp for any occasion doesn't know
shit about amps.

I guess that would be you.

Get over yourself! If you can't see the "tongue in cheek" in my post then I
guess I shoulda made it more obvious.

For me there is no better amp out there. I get clean when I want clean and
when I need anything else, it's a footstep away. Every Marshall I have ever
played through either has a crappy sterile clean or no clean at all. Like I
said "For me" there is no other than the original SF Twin.

I'm sorry. I think you meant to say "the original Blackface Twin
with JBLs."

As to Marshall amps, my (limited) experience with them has been that
you got to let the ponies run. Don't play 'em loud, just don't play
'em.

The Marshall JMP, whether it was a non-master or master volume, are revered as
highly desirable amps. If you don't like the tone, you still missed the
opportunity to make enough to buy yourself a couple of Twin Reverbs!

Can you tell me the difference between a SF and BF Twin, besides the
cabinet size and speaker configuration ?

You just left $1000 on the table. $900, anyway.
