Re: What are you listening to now?

Right now/recently? Al Stewart, a great player named Dave Nachmanoff
who I recently saw playing with Al, Richard Thompson, Luke Doucet and
White Falcon, LMT Connection...

As far as music that picks me up, LMT will always do the trick.

What LMT -- "Learn More Tunes"?

Currently my MP3 player has in it:

- the Eagles latest double album (Long Road Out of Eden)
- Tom Petty (Various)
- Def Leppard (Metal, 1995)
- Nora Jones
- David Gilmore, On an Island

Had some Boston and Cheap Trick in there for a while.

Better for what? Taking the place apart? ;-)

I forget who wrote it, but I love "Change the Locks" that Tom Petty & HB
perform. Also love the TP song "Swingin'" among others. A few Cheap Trick
(I want you to want me and Aint that a shame) and Eagles tunes I can
listen to over and over. I've been rediscovering some Def Leppard metal
tunes also. Pink floyd of course falls in this category. I used to listen
to a lot of Kinks also -- great songs and sound.

In the late 70s, there used to be a group "The Battered Wives". I used to
have one of their (2?) records. I should have kept it. They had some good
stuff and used to play the local scene in Toronto at the time.

I listen to all kinds of stuff, but stop short of rap, bagpipes and
singing monks!

LMT Connection. Not sure what it stands for, I'll have to ask them. It
almost, but not quite works with the members names. Funk/jazz trio,
all wonderful players. The singer/guitarist used to be a motown
session player and spent a large part of his career with Marvin Gaye.

Beatles, Audioslave, Queen, Elvis Costello, Stone Temple Pilots, yadda
yadda. It all depends on my mood. I tend not to focus exclusively on
one genre/style.

Yeah my wife doesn't understand one day it's Pink Floyd, the next it's KT
Tunstall or Radney Foster.
Thanks for the answer.

I haven't the slightest idea who KT Tunstall or
Radney Foster are, but assuming all three artists
are very different -

What is it that your wife "doesn't understand"?
Does she feel that she/you/we should listen to
only one style of music?

Some people's approach to being a listener is
very odd.

Lumpy,
My wife is from the Czech Republic and she was for a time under communist
rule. And during those times The Beatles were "verboten" as was most
"Western Music", the "allowed music" was Bach, Beethoven, Edith Piaf, The
great composers etc. then moved to Sweden and then to West Africa so her
listening preferences are different from mine. So when I listen to different
types of music from Ray Charles to Patsy Cline to Pink Floyd it hard for her
to adjust to all of the different music I grew up with. I have one brother
and two sisters who all had different music interests as well, my mother who
mainly listened to "Country and Western" brings influences to what music I
listen to and what I try to play. Which brings me to what my father said I
listen to two types of music Country and Western. A lot of individuals grew
up with only gospel music and do not tend stray far from that base.

That's fascinating that it was that way in
such recent history. There are some great
jazz musicians (big bands, saxes) coming
out of Czk-land these days. There are also
some great violin family instruments (URBasses)
coming from there as well.

Have fun looking at this site.
http :// www .meatexz,com /cheesyguitars/

My mother in law is bringing me a Russian copy of a Les Paul from Prague, it
has really crappy tuners and the thing hums like two bumble bees in a soda
can. It's an arch top, she paid the equivalent of $50.00 bucks for it. I'll
post pics when I get it one of my "relatives" there tested it and he said it
is $hit. But the body is good, she has been looking there for three years
for it.

I like the BigBeat -

"If you are bored with making music,
itīs switchable to medium-wave radio."

I could work some DX between solos.

Not very fast. I learned 20 for the test
a million years ago but never worked CW.
Now I've got a CW radio, I'm refreshing
my code.

I've been on 5w 20m all over the world
the past couple of days. This afternoon
I QSOd w/ S America and my dipole pattern
was East West. I was good copy with only
QRP and my antenna was pointed the wrong
way!
