Can somebody tell me what's happening here? I know it's on the top 2

It's two strings at any one time. From what I heard, you can play the
first part on the top two strings and then later it's the second (B) and
third (G) strings. Don't be confused by the echo, which makes it sound
much more complex than it actually is.
