Gave in to GAS

Gave in to GAS

Everytime I get a case of GAS, I repeat: "Put the money into lessons,
put the money into lessions,..." over and over until it passes.

Last week, when I was picking up my guitar from a setup, I started
playing a Reverend Daredevil HB that was on display and really enjoyed
it.

Its been a tough winter (my Dad passed away in February), so I said,
"Screw, I'm going to treat myself" and bought it.

Really well-made guitar and pretty affordable.

I got a wine-red one.

I like it a little more than my Korean Tokai LP-style -- so I might shed
that one. The Daredevil is a little "brighter", but can do the same
crunchy humbucker sound.

...I still should practice more.

Zendog,

congrats. Nothin like a new ax to inspire that very thing! Sorry to
hear about your dad's passing.

I lost mine a couple of years ago. At 46, I find myself wanting to
ask his advice still. Odd.

I too gave into GAS and ordered a new amp head. I typically get bored
with my sound about every 5 years or so.

This time I lasted much longer, but I gave in and ordered a Ceriatone
Overtone Special, which is a Dumble clone.

Will take 9 weeks to get it in. Then I will need a cab, probably 1x12
or 2x12, haven't decided yet.

Will have to sell a couple guitars though to pay for it.

Must be something in the air. I just got me a PRS SE Singlecut today (and a
Micro BR last week). Hopefully I'm done for awhile though.

Anyway, I'm playing my new guitar and wifey starts yelling at me to turn it
down. How am I supposed to turn down my amp while I'm trying out my brand
new guitar? They just don't understand, do they?

In the air? I think it is that tax rebate in the mail! :-)

Luckily my wife is very understanding, and just moves to another part
of the house when I am practicing a rock tune.

Good for you! I had one electric since 1979...that was until I got out
of the hospital in 2004. Since then I have bought and sold 100 easily.
I have tried all types...kept some got rid of some...just kind of went
GAS nuts. But it's been fun and I've been exposed to many guitars that
I never would have dreamed I would like or want (ex: Steinbergers).
Good luck with it.

...sorry...I meant to also say...I am sorry about your father. I lost
mine in 95 and lost my mom in 05. They have been such an inspiration
and gave such a jump start to my songwriting. I'd rather have them
back, but at least I have music to soothe my mind.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm sorry for your loss too. The years
probably dull the sadness, but don't fill the emptiness.

It has been a one-two punch because my mother died of Lymphoma just nine
months before my father passed. But they lived long and active lives
and both died in their sleep with their children at their bedside.

I do consider myself lucky that I've got a great wife and kids, a good
job, and music to help me through this time.

...and practicing a smooth open F chord takes a lot of concentration.

I have been playing for 40 years and still have to think twice when
playing a F chord!

Enclose links in angle brackets, and most newsreaders will handle them
without the wrapping problem.

That's a gorgeous guitar.
