Cakewalk Sonar LE/MIDI Output

Cakewalk Sonar LE/MIDI Output

I just installed Cakewalk Sonar LE Digital Audio Workstation. I can't get
started using it because a box pops up telling me to select a MIDI Output
from the list inside the box. The problem is there is nothing in the list
to select. No MIDI Output. I won't be able to hear anything play until I
bypass this hurdle. I've got Microsoft Vista. Has anyone else installed
this program and encountered the same problem? What should I do now?

What version? I think Sonar 7 is the only one qualified to work on
Vista. If you have an older version, it might not work. Do I remember
right that Sonar LE is the simplified version that's sometimes included
with various soundcards and stuff? What sound card are you using?

Are you determinded to record MIDI? If not, you should be able to
continue on with no MIDI devices enabled and still be able to record
audio. My copy of Sonar 5 has a checkbox labled "Warn about no MIDI
devices" - when that's unchecked, the program won't bug me about that
at startup.

It's version 4.0.1. I don't know anything about MIDI...only that the
message in the box says I won't be able to hear anything without MIDI
Output. I've tried to record with no luck. And you are right. This
software came with the Samson C03U usb mike I bought. I'll check out the
newer version of the software. I still have Audacity to record with. The
mike works fine with it. And I'm very comfortable with Audacity. I just
thought I'd check out the software that came with the mike.

Re: Cakewalk Sonar LE/MIDI Output

It should just mean you wont hear a MIDI output, you will (should) hear
normal audio output just fine.

Like Nil said, what soundcard do you have? Soundblasters actually handle
MIDI internally so you should have a midi option and if not there is
probably a setting to enable it. If your using a "pro" soundcard things are
a touch more difficult.

Check your BIOS to see if you have MPU-401 (gameport)enabled, which is the
old gameport but also dealt with MIDI.

this thread and it's related threads may help solve your problem.

http :// forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=738819

Also someone might be able to help you more here but something like
soundforge can handle the MIDI. I'm sure someone will point you in the
direction of a suitable program.

Also check out the cakewalk newsgroups, they are helpful.

Finally does Sonar LE have the Cakewalk TTS-1 synth? If so it's a softsynth
and you can use it to route MIDI through the Master output

The sound card is, I believe, Realtek High Definition Audio. Thanks for the
info, Angof.

For decent recording you'll need something better. The recordings I did
with that card were so full of noise (line static) they were virtually
unusable. The ones I do now with the Audiophile soundcard are noiseless.

It's saying that you won't be able to record or hear MIDI data. That's
a separate function from audio, which should work OK even with MIDI
disabled... if Sonar LE version 4 will work under Vista.

You might check the newsgroup cakewalk.audio . Other resources are the
Sonar LE product page at the Cakewalk site:

http :// www .cakewalk,com /Products/SONARLE/

The Cakewalk web forum (LE has its own forum)

If you can get it to work, I think you'll enjoy it. Sonar is a fun tool
for multitrack recording.

You should be able to ignore that. You don't have
any midi device to send MIDI data to, but that's
ok. You didn't intend to anyway. You don't have
a midi input (keyboard) either-- don't sweat it.

You can still use midi "software" instruments (there
are many free ones available and I am sure there's
at least a couple included). You will have the midi
data directed to the software instrument, which
converts that "note data" to audio sound samples.
Look for the RXP drum loops, if that is included.

Until you wrap your head around how Sonar works, don't
worry about that much. Worry more about getting audio
recordings and playback to work first.

Once you master that, then learn how to insert
those wonderful realtime audio effects.

Then go back and try the midi drum-loop stuff
later.

> disabled... if Sonar LE version 4 will work under Vista.

I'd be a little worried that the rest even works
under Vista. Vista broke just about everything
I owned, software wise. Don't get me started.
