I'm inspired to get back to guitar

After a month away from it, I heard a song called "Heaven" by Los
Lonely Boys. I'd never heard it before, I don't listen to the radio.

Anyway, I'm working through it and it's really inspired me to get back
to learning the scales and trying to understand the solos.

Rather than tune down, I just tuned the song up in Sound Forge. :)

Cool. That is a really good song. I remember hearing it for the first
time on Austin City Limits. I went out ond got the CD the next day.
Apparently they are/were Willie Nelson's favorite band.

I'm using the tab here:
* w w w .ultimate-guitar . com /tabs/l/los_lonely_boys/heaven_ver5_tab.htm

When you're playing the intro, and just playing on 2 strings, are you
supposed to mute the other strings with the right hand? Or just pick
those 2 strings? Or both?

It's hard. :)

I like the little bite-sized solos in the song. Easy to commit to
memory and work them out.

Frustrating thing is that I could grab those solos and play them on
keyboard effortlessly, but this freakin' alien guitar....

You can see the video here :

The guitar player has a strange technique. At times he looks
like he's playing chords/rhythm but a solo is coming out of his
guitar. Does he mute 5 strings or hit a single string as his
had is doing a strumming motion ?

Not to come across as facetious, but it's not an actual performance.
He's making cool rock star moves.

This will give you a better idea of how he actually *plays* the song:

I had a feeling it might be something like that because I had a
hard time matching what he was doing with what I was hearing.
Pretty poorly done clip...

YouTube's a great tool for learning songs (wish it was around 40 years
ago!), but if there's a live clip available, you're always better off
with that. The other stuff is MTV fodder (or what USED to be MTV)!

A big OOPS on that first chord when the vocals begin.

And what's even cooler is that they own a commercial garage where they
build performance cars.

The interview in RollingStone the lead guitar player stated some of his
influences were Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix among others. He like the bends
that SRV was doing and he really style himself after him.
