well I have always said the 50 watt ValveKing 6L6 powered combo is a good deal
for straight up rocking out and also has usable cleans.
For under $500 you can't get a current production new 6L6 powered amp
that packs the bang for buck as this does.
Obviously it is not PTP or hand wired or tube rectified but
this is not necessarily a bad thing if it helps to keep the cost
down and reasonable purchase for many players out there.
Keep in mind that this thing will get really loud.
It is not really for the bedroom player although it is a Master volume
amp which helps - but this amp really wants to get a bit louder than
bedroom practive levels to sound its best.
The speaker they use is also ok - but a speaker replacement at a later time might
have you liking this amp even more. However, as it comes OEM it's
a very usable and playable amp with good tones in there.
That being said -- there are always other 6L6 powered amp choices
out there - but Peavey is generally a well built amp product and
their USA customer support is usually excellent. Talk to a real person
and get any issues or problems resolved without hassles. That alone
is cool to know.
And of course there is always the used market where $500 might get
you even more choices -- of course you might come home with a lemon
or come home with a winner. Take the time to really check out any
used amps or work it out so that your own tech can have a look at it first
before you buy.
If you really don't need the super beefy 50 watts of 6L6 power
and you want to stick with Peavey -- the Peavey Classic 30 (EL84 powered) is also
an excellent amp - great bang for the buck - good all around tones
and also (like the ValveKing combo) takes pedals very well.
ok. that's my 2 cents.
