On the top examples from the left starts with the low E and the number tells
you what fret to play. The bottom is the same but oriented different.. The
low E is on the bottom. Each line is a string. The numbers are the frets you
play. the x's are not played or muted

Separate them. The upper stuff has nothing
at all to do with the lower stuff.

I had to look up what modified chords were as I'd never heard that term
before, this was the first hit on Scroogle.org
* w w w .abhinavsonkar . com /2008/02/17/guitar-chords-kholo-kholo-tu-dhoop-hai-taare-zameen-par/
looks familiar :))

> Bsus4 - [224400]

This is a modified B-suspended 4th chord. The numbers in [brackets} relate
the fingering position for the chord. E-string on the 2nd fret, B-string on
the 2nd fret, G-sting on the 4th fret, D-string on the 4th fret, A-string
open, E-string open.

> E--0--x-x-x-----x--3---

Once again this depicts the finger position. E open, B open, G muted, D 2nd
fret, A 2nd fret and E open.... E minor. So the strumming would go
E minor strum, mute strum, mute strum, mute strum, 2nd fret A hammer on to
4th fret A, A minor with muted strings strum.

x = mute and h = hammer on :)

Hope that helps.

G.

The text chord names (upper) are not related at all
to the ascii tab (lower).
The chord names are also not particularly correct in the upper,
text descriptions.

For the OP, the simplest answer is -
- the tab SHOULD be depicting what you hear
on the recording. Listen to the record while
watching the tab. Break it down into tiny bits
just 4 beats long and see if/how the tab relates
to the sound you hear.

Based on what I'm seeing in the stuff you included
in the post, that orig tab is likely way, way
incorrect. But that's hard to tell when the
example is so far out of context.

What's the song?

Thank you all for replying. Well Lumpy, the song is from a Hindi film "Taare
Zameen Par" and its title is "Kholo Kholo."

You had to mention it! Now I'll have that tune running through my head
for the next couple of days.

I need an antidote. Oh, here it is:

Well sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip....

Aah, that's better.
