Look past your fingers to the position of your fingers on the fret board
- the dots on the fret board, or better yet, on the side of the neck.
Then once you realize what your fingers have been doing
positionally/relatively, play the scale at the fifth fret, third fret,
12th fret, 7th fret, etc. so that you know how to and feel comfortable
with modulating keys.
Play both forward and backward, up and down the scales. Pick triplets
on each note to improve your right hand speed and accuracy.
Also - study the "position boxes" of the scale - 1st, 2nd, and 5th...and
learn to modulate those as well. That's a start.
