Thanks

Wow, I've started some kind of gigantic physics debate.

Anyways, thanks to everyone who offered advice. Except the people who
ridiculed me for being an amateur. It's called "alt.guitar.beginner"
for a REASON, you know.

Go ahead and continue the argument now. :P

I've never seen a post by Box Monster on this
group till this one.

Who ridiculed you?

Who ARE you?

Your news server must be dropping posts. Mine does it all the time, so I
occasionally check in Google Groups. The original appeared on the 15th.

Are you referring to the "What gauge strings should I use" question? If
so, what did you take away from the discussion? And what did you mean
when you said you were a "soloist"?

Relax, Box Monster, that's just the nature of newsgroups. You will get more
information than you requested, you might even get flamed but somewhere in
all that verbiage you will find your answer. Stick around.

Nothing wrong with being a beginner and posting a question here...you
get assholes in all groups. I missed the original post, so I'll answer
now. You simply have to try a few different guages and see what feels
and sounds best to you. I use 10's. For many years I used 9's, and I
used 8's for many years prior to that. Right now...10's just feel
right to me. 9 -11 are the most common guages used on electric. Some
people use higher guage strings AND tune the guitar down to a
different key...the heavier strings don't feel as heavy that way. If
you are a beginner, you have plenty to learn before you get around to
worrying about alternate tuning. Good luck.

Once again...

Who is Box Monster? First post from her I can
find in history is the quote above. Is she
a nym shifting troll? Who is it that made
this non-existant poster feel "ridiculed"?

Who is this person who can't stand the heat?
Since when does amateur = beginner?

The post Box Monster is referring to was titled "Recommended string
gauge"

The thread that turned into a physics and drivers ed. thread....
You posted to it.

Ok. Now I see his first post.

The one where he claimed to be a soloist
and was "thinking of having his strings changed".

The "ridicule" is the obvious answer
to the "ridiculous" statement.

I've been thinking of getting a baritone guitar so I can play so low.
