Using the pickup switch

Using the pickup switch

My Peavey Raptor has the following pickups:
One near the fretboard, one in the middle, and a double towards the
end.

The switch has 5 positions. Is there some rule of thumb on where that
switch is supposed to be set?

I need lessons. :)

Position 2. That is the rule.
Don't ever break it.

I think it's ok to use other switch
positions. But I'd consult a guitar tech
at GC first, to be sure I'm not using
the wrong position.

Someone on the internet told me five years ago that it should only be
set to position 1. Are you saying I've been breaking the law all these
years?

Damn you and your zero point metagenic magnetic volume control management
system (tm).

They never sold those locally so I got a cheap Chinese copy, but it starts
at 1 like normal volume knobs :-(

I rigged up an emergency switch, that activates all of the pickups in
series. With two sets of humbuckers and a single pole, it runs through
five pickups. EMG active pups. a preamp is built into the pickups.
It is a little hard on Amps, but it gets the attention when I hit the
turbo charger switch.
It seems that the OPAMP chips tend to blow to pieces on wimpy
Amplifiers.
