US AGB'ers Only: TAX DAY!

First time in years, I owe less than $500 to the fed. Can't wait to go
home and send in my taxes electronically!

* sniff sniff * Is that sarcasm I smell?

Ah, yes. Time to cough up one of those four-times-a-year cashballs and
send it to dear ol' Uncle Sam. Anyone need a 1040-ES? I got bunches of
'em.

And in a couple of months, I get it all back again, plus a whole heap
more. The government's sunk in red ink, but they're sending us tax
rebates! What a way to run a country. Remember back after the 2000
election, those bumper stickers started appearing that read, "The
Grown-Ups Are Back In Charge"? Ha!

Ha!

Can't say I saw those. I DID see a lot of these however:

"Don't blame me, I voted for the WINNER" and

"Elected, not Selected"

Not since Calvin pissed on his first Ford have 2 bumper stickers been so
prescient...

LOL! I filed my returns in early Feb. electronically and got my refunds
(almost $3K combined Federal and State) about a week later.

A few days afterwards, I had a nice (1981) JCM 800 amp sitting in my
family room, with enough left over to *almost* afford that Ric 4003 I've
had my eye on (haven't gotten it yet though).

Sure, it's my money, but Uncle Sam seems to do a hell of a lot better
job saving it for me than I do!

OTOH, those of us filing Schedule C have that much less to pay upfront to
begin with...um, but we ALWAYS file quarterly returns, just in case. Yeah,
that's it...

Just fyi, (my day job is H&R Block this year) the Irs transmits direct
desposit refunds every Friday in tax season. The closeout is on the
Thursday of the prior week. So if you file electronically on Thursday
morning your refund will be in your account on Friday 8 days later. If you
file on Thursday pm (depending on your time zone) your refund will be there
the Friday 15 days later.
