I've tried one. I recently gave it away.

I can only imagine it's a lot like wearing a bra!
I didn't like it at all. It did however nicely distribute the weight of my
bass.
Unfortunately between this strap making you wear your bass way up high, and
me looking liking I'm fighting an ocotpus trying to get in an out of it, I
got rid of it.

Sounds a lot like my experience with it. I disliked all of the things
you talk about but what really bugged me was that it held the bass in
one position that kinda favored the front of my body rather than the
side. I didn't realize how important those small side to side shifts of
the bass were until I couldn't do them.

For anyone who has serious issues with an bass hanging off them I'd
suggest sitting at least part of the time. Especially with a high stool
it doesn't look funny on stage and it provides a more relief than any
fancy strap.

Good point! As you can infer, my back/neck is killing me. I will try to
get a high stool. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yep a stool is what helped me and my shoulder problem a lot. If you happen
to be a short ass like me make sure that it is a height that you can get on
and off easily whilst you are playing, I tried some stools out and found
that some had a smooth seat that didn't feel comfortable after a short
while, one had a plastic seat with a front lip that sloped down so that
everytime I tried to sit on it or move on it I slipped off the front edge,
which was embarrassing to say the least.
One had a chrome frame that had a lot of bounce in it, great I thought as I
climbed aboard, until in my excitement it nearly catapulted me onto the drum
kit one night, too high, too springy.
I would suggest going to a really big store and trying a whole lot out cos a
short gig can get really too long with your bum on the wrong seat.

Yes, it does a good job of distributing the weight of the instrument over
both shoulders. But as others have pointed out it's awkward to get on and
off and does seem to hold the instrument in one and only one position. If
you want something to spread the weight over both shoulders maybe take a
look at these:

From the photo, it looks like Jesus has one.

I haven't tried that particular one but years ago I did make something
very similar and found that it also tended to hold the bass in one place.

Having broken my neck, jaw and cheek I have some upper spine issues.
Sitting is the only thing that allowed me to keep playing.

These are very similar to what I've been using since about 1992 (why
didn't I patent my design!). They're actually really easy to make
using a plain cheap leather strap and a webbing strap. Loop the back of
the webbing strap through one of the leather loops where the tail/tongue
attaches to the main leather strap. Use the leather strap over your
left shoulder as normal and the webbing strap over your right shoulder.

No, but I did used to use two straps, one for each shoulder, and I
liked that a lot.
