Moonstomp!

Moonstomp!

Outstanding reggae! I was drinking in The Ship in Wardour Street London
(frequented by The Clash when they were recording at a studio nearby
apparently) a few weeks back, and they were playing a collection CD called
"The Skinhead Generation" that was so good I went to the record store in the
next street and bought it. The first track is "Skinhead Moonstomp" by
Symarip, which is a generic reissue of Derrick Morgan's "Moon Hop". The
bass part on both songs is just the best reggae thing I have heard in a long
time, and I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any idea where I might
find either version in score or tab? I guess this is a UK only thing as I
don't think the early 1970s skinhead / reggae fashion made it beyond the
Sceptred Isle.

Thanks,

Ian

Is it the bass line that sounds very similar to "I'll take you there" with
the accent on different beats?

Yes, well spotted, same notes more or less but with a different groove.
Ian, I have a copy of 'moonstomp' if you need it, along with about 30odd
other tracks from the same compilation. No trouble to burn to cd if you
want. The notes on moonstomp are: start on the 2, then 3, 5 and back down
to1 via the 3. As with the audio tracks, I can score it in Sibelius and
email the chart.

Monz, I don't know I'll Take You There, but as you have obviously prompted
Steve's memory thanks. Steve, the chart would be great. My email is
ianm.hayward@(leaveout)ntlworld . com . Thanks.

Ian

BTW, we loved Liverpool; the Mersey Ferry in particular was brilliant into a
Force 5 westerly! Titanic pose off the front sharp bit and all that.

Re: Moonstomp!

I was brought up on Ska and Rude Boy tunes as I left school in the early
80's here in england the music was at its zenith with the Specials, The
Beat, Selecta, Bad Manners and Madness to name but a few... Have seen Bad
Manners live a few times, very good to see.

UB40 have always been a fave of mine till Ally got all stroppy and messed it
up :o)

Righty ho, I'll get on to it and send it when I'm done (is C major ok for
the key?). The track Monz mentions is by Mavis Staples, nice tune it is too.

Nice one ;) The waterfront is looking good nowadays. I did a private gig on
the 'Daffodil' last year but thankfully the weather was calm. It was with a
Django Rheinhart type outfit and it was cool to be playing 'La Mer' as we
sailed up and down the river...
