Unusual instrument

Saw a wierd stringed instrument on tv last night - 3 bass strings and a set
of six strings in what looked like open chord guitar tuning on the same
neck. Frets ran at unusual angles to cater for the fingering/string
length....

Anyone know what this creature is??

Sounds like something Charlie Hunter would play.

Probably one of Charlie Hunter's Novax guitars - although I thought his
had only 5 treble strings (8 in total)
