Agreed, all those pedals. Can't say that I find effects that useful
on the bass, its wave being so big that you need to seriously thin it
out and bend it to make pedals work.

Agreed. And I'm not into standard electric pedals and the rest. I
only own one guitar pedal and it's a reverb pedal I use on blues harp!
And one data point is that I have more basses than guitars. But on the
other hand I rather think that basses and bass gear seems to be a much
better buy. Guitar guys just seem willing to shell out ungodly amounts
of money for stuff. A quick trip down the guitar amp aisle looking at
the prices soon has me over in the bass closet looking at the MarkBass
again and thinking it's a bargain!

Tell it, brother. And how about adding drums and acoustics, too. At least
I'm down to two drum kits.

And strings, and slides, and capos, and picks, and goofy straps to make them
look cool. If they're making a bit of money they'll change guitars every
other song too. If they're really making money they have a guy to hand them
the new guitar and take away the old one. Bass players are too grounded to
have someone just to help them swap out instruments even if they have more
than one, although a guy to help them move the damn amps is another story.

Saw the Moody Blues last week. The bass player got another
bass or guitar or double neck bass/guitar every other song.
Played real good with that pick he did.

peace

Aww gosh - I only have two basses, I did get rid of one keyboard and gave
another to my granddaughter, one more is for the whole family. I only have
four left now of my own.

I have too much stuff, but I use it all, so maybe it's not too much
stuff. Let's ask Delbert McClinton...

"YOU GOT TOO MUCH STUFF".

There you have it. I have too much stuff.

Guitarists buy more mass produced crap. In fact, they buy & try EVERY piece
of mass produced crap that comes down the pike.

But Bassists spend WAY more per capita, as EVERYTHING has to be "boutique"

One funky 18 string boutique bass made from extinct Amazon tree frog skin
(for improved resonance of course), or an audiophile quality combo made by
one insane genius with a soldering iron cancels out most guitarist's
lifetime expenditures.

Guitarists, definitely.
But if you play guitar and bass, you double your pleasure, double your
fun! (Not really, my guitar stuff still vastly outweighs my bass
stuff.)

I had a drummer who shopped every week before practice.
Of course, every week before buying more he returned half the previous
week's purchases.
I could rile him up by asking why he needed all those cymbals when they
all sounded the same.
