Hartke A100 Replacement Fuse?

Hey Folks,

I was hoping someone here could help me out. I think I blew the fuse
in my Hartke A100 combo amp. The head won't turn on and the fuse
sounds like a maraca when you shake it and the glass has some black
marks on it. So it seems blown to me :-). So my question is what type
of fuse should I get as a replacement. The A100 manual says the fuse
is a 3AG slo-blo with a rating of 1.6A. The fuse I took out of the amp
has the letter/numbers 5S3A250V on it. I'm not sure about the first
two characters but I assume characters 3A250V means 3 amps 250 volts.
So which is correct or am I just missing something?

Yeah I called them first and ended up getting an answering machine.
They said they'd ring me back within a business day. I thought about
finding an old Bass Player with Larry Hartke's cell number and calling
him, but... :-).

I would suggest it's 3A for 110V and 1.6A for 230V, so 3A would
presumably be correct for you - the old fuse was 3A, so it's a bit of a
give-away.

However, be aware that fuses don't often blow for no reason, the amp may
be faulty - or (if you're lucky) it may have been a mains surge, that
didn't happen to damage the amp.

Thanks Nigel as well as Joe. I order some 3 amp 250 volt 20mm slow
blow fuses from Action Electronics. One of the few online stores that
seemed to have fuses with these specs. Even the local Radio Shacks
didn't have em.

As for the blown fuse it was operator error.

It's a Hartke. "blown fuse" is redundant.
