Are all drummers flaky?

Are all drummers flaky?

Flaky drummer #5 since early April:

"Sorry I couldn't make the audition. I thought my drums were here, but my
snare & cymbals are at my old band's place, and the rest of the stuff is
somewhere else. I gotta find it."

This guy left his last band the day after their last gig with him, which was
on April 4th. What kind of musician doesn't know where his stuff is at any
given moment?

Forgot my six-string razor and hit the sky
Half way to Memphis 'fore I realised.
I rang up information - my axe was cold
They said she rides the train to Oreole

I got to Oreole, y'know it took a month
And there was my guitar: electric junk.
Some spade said Rock'n'rollers, you're all the same.
Man, that's your instrument. I felt so ashamed.

LOL. Nice.

On a more serious note, the answer is probably: someone more focused
on where their next drink/joint/fix/line is coming from.

Probably. I'm ready to place an ad that says "Do you know what day it is
today? If you do, my band wants you."

And you'll get someone who knows what day was when they read your ad,
but not when you actually meet them ;)

Are all drummers flaky? No! Some are idiots. Some are alcholics. Some
have anger management problems. Some are just plain weird.

And some have corporate jobs, with wife, kids and mortgage, and play bass,
guitar and keys in addition to drums.

You should find one of those.

I'm working on one now. He knows how to use a phone and a calendar. It's
spooky.

Aren't those the ones who call you 2 days before your first gig and tell you
they have to quit because "the wife" thinks it's too much of a time
commitment?

Or who get suddenly transferred across the country and leave in a week,
just as the band is getting it's legs?

I'll take my chances with the junkies. At least you know they're not going
anywhere.

Sometimes, the place they're not going is to practice, or to the gig you
reminded them about 6 times.

You need "all of the above, plus junkie". Have you tried Craigslist?

My buddy's band's drummer just left because his wife thought he was spending
too much time with the band and she felt it was time for kids, and I got
into my current band because the bass player's job transferred him to
Florida after they'd worked up about 20 songs...

I guess some things truly never change!
