I've been gettin calls like this from GC for over 30 years. Granted,
Bush has taken hard time(s) to new levels, but the GC thing has always
been such. They think of you as a "valued customer" and prospective
buyer-of-big goods. Hey, that sums ME up in a nutshell. Although they
have, over the years, had less and less of anything I'm interested in.

Too bad. I like interest.

FYI:
I have not received any calls from my local GC. I have spent well
over $1000 over the past few years.

So, maybe it's just your local store getting creative.
