Deep Purple thought so, and they're weren't exactly a mellow lounge act.

No, the fact that the songs are godawful, schmaltzy, overly sappy, crap
does.

No, I'm a bass player.

...and I HATE trite lyrics and overly sentimental schmaltz - the very stock
and trade of Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow. It's pablum at its finest.

His name was Rico, he wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancin' there
And when she finished, he called her over
But Rico went a bit too far, Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

I mean, how sentimental can you get?

OK, I'm playing the pedant's card here, that needs rejecting on the grounds
of grammatical impurity; it should read "who shot whom?"

Ah, but how about "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation show."?

I have that 45 in a box of records at my mother's house. I used to
listen to it all the time along with "Shilo" when I was feeling down.
Does that make me a pansy?

I had that 45 too, and I think I still do. Neil Diamond has a very
unique timbre and can deliver like a some bitch. When it comes to
vocals it is not as important to be a "good" singer as it is important
to be able to sing in tune and deliver with "attitude". Think of all
the successful vocalists out there who aren't particularly "good"
singers, but have a shitload of style and attitude. Mick Jagger, Steve
Tyler, Sebastian Bach are a few that come to mind.

Now that people have ripped Neil Diamond and Barry Mannilow. I would
like to know are there any Tom Jones fans out there. Tom Jones could
be painted with the same brush, but in my opinion Tom Jones kick some
serious ass when it comes to style and delivery.

Good example... it's only trite and schmaltzy, but not sentimental. It is
pablum at its finest though.

You need to get a dictionary. Schmaltzy is sentimental. As for trite,
I'd say it was pretty fresh.

This stuff is gold, baby, GOLD!
