i own
5 guitars vs 6 basses.
3 guitar amps vs 2 bass amps.
4 guitar stomp boxes vs 1 bass stomper.
10 sets of reserve guitar strings vs 1 set bass.
i dunno....

i play with two polar opposites when it comes to GAS, however.
the guy i jam with regularly has a room full of vintage and custom
shop strats and telies.
a couple of les pauls, 1920 something mandolin, martin D28, 3 or 4
high-end fender amps, several practice amps, a trunk full of stompers,
pod, and one 1960 something jazz bass - while the guy i record and
play out with has one PRS guitar and one loud-ass amp and could gice a
spit about vintage anything except that it has the advantage of
already being scratched up..

I'd say it's gotta be guitar players. There's a much much much wider
palette of sounds they're called on to produce, and as a result a
bashitload more stomp boxes and FX in their heads. And they also
change strings a lot more frequently than we do.

Us, shit, one bass a decent amp and yer done for about 4 months until
maybe you want some new strings. And even if you change them and hear
a difference, no one else can.

Talked to the owner of my favorite store: "Why don't you carry more
basses?" "Because bass players tend to own one or two, guitar players
are like women with shoes."

OK, I think its an exaggeration, (looking over at my pile of bass
cases) but I think the point is well taken.

Bassists.
All you need is one bass and one amp. The rest is superfluous.
On the other hand, you can never have too many guitar-related toys.

Your notes are what counts.

Not, the gear.
