I already have a small touch of tinitus....and I've had it for many
years. I blame it on my wild youth

Etymotics (non custom) are ~ 20.00usd delivered to your door (in the
States). If the non customs aren't your thing that go custom. That or
go ringing ringing ringing.... That sucks. I know.

I just ordered a set of the ten bux Etymotic ER-20's.
I have to wear hearing aids for high frequency loss. I had a
lot of frustration for the past 5 years with hearing aids that
go into the ear and block all the sound from the outside
world. I could not play music with them in because they put
mucho trash into my ears. I could not hear the guitars very
will without them. I was a very frustrated musician.
About six months ago I got Bernafon Swiss Ears, behind the ear
hearing aids ($1K/ear at Costco). They have a little tube that
connects to a wagon wheel like end to hold the tube in the
center of the ear canal and let the outside sound right into
my ear along with the little tweeter tube. They work great. I
can hear the band with minimal distortion and when we stop
playing I can understand what all those pretty girls that come
to our shows are saying to me. I am very pleased except for
the fact that I thought all the pretty girls were asking me to
put one of those Hawaiian flower things on them but damn they
are really asking me asking me to turn my friken bass down.
I want to see what the Etymotic ER-20's will do with the Swiss
Ear tube in. Maybe I will have to notch them or perhaps get
another pair of tubes and mount them into the HA through some
holes I can drill in. Pretty cheap to experiment with since
the ER-20's are 13 bux delivered and I bet I can scrounge a
new set of tubes from the hearing aid guy.
They look like my old Sonic II's...................Hum maybe
my ear damage is because these dont work? Nah, the ENT guy
says it is hereditary. Mom Pop and little sister and brother
wear hearing aids too.
I have the mold for my right ear in ear in case I want to try
the custom plugs. I never got a left ear that fit well after
three molds and lots of dremeling.

PS: hearing aids are a lot like bass's. With bass it is all in
the guy playing the bass. With hearing aids it is all in the
guy dispensing them. Get a good one. The guy who finally did
the trick for me wears hearing aides.
PPS: Refusing to get hearing aids and treating hearing loss
with denial is about as smart a move as someone who refuses to
get glasses when their eyes start to go. Instead of having a
car crash you will have train wrecks in the band and
misunderstand a lot of conversations perhaps agreeing to
something stupid or missing out on a lot of opportunities.
