I would imagine his amps are way better than his attitude. I'd be
willing to bet I'm not the first potential customer he's chased off.
BFD. He's not the only guy out there building and/or modding amps. In
my 30+ years in the business, I've seen 'em come and go by the scores
- much larger and more successful companies, mind you. If Doug wants
to act like a pompous, arrogant prick and slag anyone else's opinions
that differ from his own (88% at last check), the world's also full of
pompous arrogant pricks. He's not even unique in that respect,
although is certainly is good at it. Let him think he's Leo
Roccaforte Marshall if he wants. But he can spare the
pseudo-magnanimous "I'm just trying to help you" bullshit. If you
have a different idea, he instantly become not such a nice guy after
all and immediately follows up with the "You came to me . . " crap.
I've seen him do it with others here, when it was clearly distorted
all to hell to suit his perspective. I may have been born at night,
but it damned sure wasn't *last* night!
Now, I hear that his sound clips actually are processed with reverb
too? (I couldn't listen because the clips I tried to access were a
different format. At least he's consistent.) *If* that's true, do
you realize what that would mean? Quite simply, that he's
misrepresented his amps as something that, in fact, they really are
*not*, because they don't *have* reverb, and don't sound that way by
themselves!!! Most impressive! So much for "honesty". Throw that
into the mix too, while you're at it, as well as double standards.
I have a feeling he wasn't starving when he decided he wanted to start
making amps. What's that got to do with it?? He sure isn't doing
*anything* which has the least influence on *my* bank account, my
gigging schedule, or the fact that my band is very well liked and
consistently rebooked wherever we play. Are you suggesting that this
indicates he's selling a shitload of amps? I've got a feeling he ain't
selling all that many amps, whatever his bank account may look like.
Nobody likes a "spoiled rich kid" with a snotty attitude. It puts
most people right off in a hurry.
I've got a limited tolerance bullshit. The man needs to acquire a
little class instead of acting like a two year old brat who doesn't
get his way. Who's got time for such behavior? It ain't like there's
a shortage of qualified people who'll actually *listen* to what you're
asking for in am amp, *and* help you try to get it - even if it ain't
their thing - without being insulting, to boot. When that happens, an
intelligent person simply goes to someone else and moves on about his
life. And mind you, there's also no shortage of intelligent people
lurking the Usenet, quietly observing.
