Sampler/looper

Never had one, but thinking about it. It's for guitar use.

I see these ways of using it:

1. First hit on button 1: record, second hit: stop recording, and
instant playback

2. First hit on button 2: record, second hit: stop recording, no playback

3. First hit on button 3: playback, second hit: stop playback

4. First hit in button 4: record more for looping, second hit: stop
recording. to playback, use button 3

Is this the way such devices work? How's it done via midi?
I guess some are build to provide 1) and/or 2).

Whatever.. which brands/models work well, midi or non-midi based?

I know some older models will only do some 8 secs, expandable to 32
secs, but using almost obsolete memory types.
AFAIK this goes for Lexicon Jam Man (something).

I have an Echoplex Digital Pro. It's a lot of fun, but I haven't used many
of the features. Being able to sync to drum machines and sequencers is nice.

I have a midi to guitar converter so I use it to put down bass lines and
rythmn or I'll do ambient type things and then noodle with guitar on top of
that.

Re: Sampler/looper

JAMMAN pedal all the way!! - 6.5 hrs (w/2gig flashcard) - playback of
multiple loops - USB port for computer - 99 loops saved. -Aux in/Mic
Inputs - easy to use interface - overdubs- Sounds great through my FX loop,
even with distortion on; device is perfectly clear!!

compared to Boss/Digitech RP/GNX series/ boomerang, etc...you can't BEAT it!
I'm loving mine..

Con: You have to buy a extra footswitch to go up/down through the loops
(hands off) - the flashcard (included) is only 24 mins. of recording.

Thanks. Checked the manual, but it's only mono. Even aux stereo in is
summed to mono, and it's mono out. No dual unit sync, so...

I forgot to mention I need a stereo one, sorry. I know most are mono.

Gibson Echoplex is also mono, but two can be synchronized, though having
to shop and keep two rack thingies is more than I'm interested in.

The old Lexicon jamman is stereo, but does only 8 secs, expandable to 32
secs, and with very oldish maybe hard to find memory sticks.

I don't think I'll need much looping; it'll be too hard to administer.
If I have to compromise, and I easily see this coming, I'll be happy to
do simple sampling, and either play it immidiately, or enable it later
as needed. If I can repeat sampling 2-3 times for a simple loop, I'll be
more than happy. Again, I don't think I'll be able to handle more.

Still searching, no rush..

If you go the Echoples route and want stereo you need ywo Echoplex's
connected vis the sync/brother jacks with a trs cable.

Re: Sampler/looper

Mogens--

Another method is my other pedal Line 6 (delay version/ GREEN). Outputs
stereo; 14 sec. recording time. - loops- over&over or single play- endless
overdubs - also possible to adjust the pitch of the recording (playing in
half time)

Con: the loops can't be stored and are lost when the power adapter is
unplugged.

Hope this helps....

I also have a RC-2 whihch is the smallest of the boss loopers. It can
store several loops (they call them phrases) and it has some pretty
cool features for less than 200 bucks...well worht a try, especially
if you are new to looping.

For a lot of help good insight check out w w w .loopers-delight . com , it's
a site dedicated to looping. It has reviews, a mailing list...

Also, do some youtube searches for the various units out or just
general terms like "looping" "loopers"...etc. There are some pretty
good vids out there with people doing some very advanced things.

Good luck
