How would you set this up?

How would you set this up?

Folks, I am looking for some input (no pun intended) on how I should set
this up.I am not looking for feedback on my equipment as what I have is what
I have and currently have no budget for more gear..Ok I take that back I may
be able to afford an EQ pedal but that's it.

First here is some backround.

Playing covers from 60's to 90's Rock to Metal
Using multiple Electrics and an electric/acoustic
Want to go from slight breakup to Metal crunch to searing leads

Here is what I have.

FX:
Zoom G2 MFX pedal
2 channel volume pedal
Boss PW10 Mutli wah
Boss DS-1

Amp:

Crate VC-50H head all tube (4) GT 12ax7 and (4) JJ EL84
Carvin 4x12 Cab

Here is how I currently have it but not happy with it. Guitar
>Zoom>DS-1>Wah>Volume

Any ideas on a better configuration?

TIA

Guitar>Volume>Wah>DS1>Zoom

Guitar>Volume>DS1>Wah>Zoom

Try those and see if they work... If you want your delays to trail you have
to put the volume pedal first. As far as where the Zoom thingie goes, just
depends if you're using it for distortion or not.

Best thing to do is just try about everything and see what works for you.

See this is why I love getting feedback from you guys. The volume right
after the guitar makes sense, I just didn't think of it that way. Yes I do
use the Zoom for distortion. I do not use any delay FX except for the amp's
wonderful reverb.

Thanks

Oh... OK... Just remember, if you put your Volume Pedal 1st, you'll have to
leave it on so signal still gets to the Zoom thingie. I hope the Zoom
automatically shorts the output when you get to the tuner so you can do
silent tuning?

Yes it does silent tuning.

Wah > DS-1 > Volume > Zoom
Now you can control gain response on the DS-1 from your guitar, and
alter overall volume at the pedal. So, you can have, say, mild gain at
loud volume, or really grindy distortion at low volumes. Try it.

I have never liked distortion before a wah, but the world is full of
players who do. I like how distortion/overdrive compresses some of
those wah frequencies and creates overtones.

What all do you do with the Zoom?

I agree, Dave. Volume before distortion means your foot-operated
violining will probably sound pretty poor. All it'll do is control the
gain of your distortion box. *Although* that might be what you're
after ;)

I tend to put wah before distortion for the simple reason that many
fine wah-using guitar players use their amp's distortion and so the
wah is always before distortion in that scenario.

If the Zoom's being used for delay and/or reverb then volume before it
makes perfect sense, again *if* you're into pedal swells and the like
- you swell a note, back off the volume pedal and the repeats are
still going on :)

However, if there's no delay or reverb in the signal chain I'd be
inclined to put the volume pedal very last - that way any (and all)
noise created by the pedal chain itself can be killed at will with the
volume pedal.

Just my tuppence...

Dave

Excellent tuppence at that!

You have pretty much described why *I* have made those choices. We all
have our methods. It's by sharing them here that we learn new stuff
from each other. I get a lot of interesting ideas here from other
players who approach things differently. I sure think that's cool.

Excellent! I appreciate it. I am trying so friggin hard to get a useable
stage tone and a fairly easy way to do things. I have already tried just
straight to the amp and that doesn't cut it. I know I can get to where I
want with the equipment I have because I am soooooooo close I can taste it.
