My preferred formula is Wah, modulation, compressor, distortion then
delay. Modualtion is flange, phase, chorus and univibe. Modulation
order depends on what lays out convenient on the top tier of my board
because I rarely use two at the same time. For distortion, fuzz and
boost in general I prefer: fuzz -> op-amp distortion -> treble
booster.
So as an example my board goes: Wah, univibe, phaser, chorus,
compressor, fuzz, keeley rat, treble booster, delay.
YMMV, and mine just works for me (for now :).
In the 80s I did it all wrong I think, it was wah, ts-9, fl-9, cs-9,
ad-9
shoulda been wah fl9 cs9 ts9 ad9... Mighta been why I was never
impressed with the FL-9 and let it go cheap pre-hype days...
