Octave pedal

Octave pedal

A while ago I heard a guitarist make good use of an Octave Pedal, and I
can see where the effect might be useful to me. I've never considered
them before, so I don't know which ones are considered good or not. Any
body have a favorite, or a suggestion for me to look at?

Up or down?? For the classic octave up a la Jimi I'd just look on
ebay
for "octavia clone" in the search box. Noting that I don't mean used
necessarily in refernce to ebay as there are many small guys putting
out brand new stuff in their ebay stores. There's one guy Erich that
has some cool stuff for good prices- search for Dice Works. I am
looking into one of his rangemaster clones as soon as some of the odds
and ends sell on my auctions (new GAS rule- no new money on toys). I
believe Erich makes a tychobrahe clone as well.

I had great fun with a fulltone ultimate octave, a bit hard to control
the fuzz though, almost always used an overdrive behind it to even it
out.

For octave down, hate to say it but digital is probably the way to
go. Saw Johnny A last saturday and he's playing through the TC
Electronics new multi floor board, though marshall tube pre amp into
the house). With his taste in tone and setup he pulls it off, though
I did like his stereo marshall tube combos in previous years. (He
must be moving his own rig and saving his energy :) Anyhow, he got
some slick octave down stuff going, chords and all with the TC.
Subtle use of it though.

Up. I found one place, Perscription Electronics
( http :// www .fuzzbox, com /) that has something like what I have in mind,
their Experience pedal. It's purple, of course.

I'll check into the Fulltone, and Dice Works. Thanks, that's a good
start.

The Dice Works Astronimus is cool and Erich is very helpful.

Another cool and cheap octave-up is the Danelectro French Toast.

Cool and cheap would be good. That would let be get a sense of how much
I'd use it, and then I could graduate up if it seems worthwhile.

Re: Octave pedal

Here's an interesting use of an octave pedal as the only
effect in the chain.

I think the Grand-Daddy of them all is the Boss OC-2 - and you can get them
for around $50....

You can only do single notes with it - Not chords. But I think the OC-3
lets you..

As Dave wrote, the POG and HOG let you do chords, neither the BOSS OC-2 or
OC-3 let you do chords, just single notes.

Foxrox has the Octron, and the more flexible Octron 2 coming out. Very nice
pedals, and they let you dial in a lower octave, a higher octave or both.
Nice. Just single notes though.

Are you *sure* about the OC-3 only doing notes??

Honestly, it's a non-issue for me... I just like using it for notes.

I'm on the waiting list for the Octron 2. Hopefully my name will come
up soon.

The Foxx Tone Machine (circa 1972) was one of the first, if not the
original, octave-fuzzes ever made. The boxes were covered with a sort of
velvet flocking. Real funky chic! The Danelectro French Toast pedal
incorporates a similar circuit at a modest price. They're all over e-Bay
both new and used.

Good Luck,
Lulu : )

Those Foxx Tone Machines also came in a textured metal case too..The
American Flag fuzzy ones from 1976 are the coolest though.. <g>

For a cheap octave box the green DOD octave pedal sounds good to me.
More pricey but even cooler are the Pearl Octaver pedals. I think the
Pearl goes two down and one up with a knob for each. Sounds great for
guitar and really cool with a bass.

That's what I thought. The OC-2 is weird though - it's such a synthetic
note. but, I love that thing

That's pretty much what it is - a synthetic sound. That's what adds to it's
allure...
