Colorsound Fuzzphaze?

Colorsound Fuzzphaze?

Hi there,

I've just seen a 70's Colorsound Fuzzphaze up for sale. It's a
combined fuzz and phaser-pedal where the speed of the phase can be
controlled with a "rocker" - like on a wah. Nice looking, all chrome.

Does anybody have any experience with this pedal? I will have to buy
it unheard, so I just want to know whether it's got a cool sound and
if it seems at all useable.

Are these pedals rare? I've googled this with different spellings and
everything - but I hardly find any information at all. Any idea of
value, reasonable price? (the price I'm willing to pay is another
issue...)

I don't know about that particular pedal, but vintage Colorsound
pedals generally fetch a pretty high price, especially the Tone
Benders.

As for the sound, from what it is - a fuzz/phaser - my guess is that
it might sound a bit like the Roland Jet Phaser but with the added
control of the rocker pedal (the Jet Phaser has simply a speed control
for the sweep). *If* it sounds similar to the Roland pedal, it'll
give you an effect similar to The Isley Brothers' "Who's That Lady"
during the lead licks. I have a Roland Jet Phaser and it does sound
cool, but it's one of those effects that you don't get a lot of
mileage out of; because it's so distinct, it can easily be overdone if
you use it too much.

Yes, I'm very much thinking like you do. I've seen a "Fuzz
Phase" (different spelling) advertised here on usenet and the seller
was asking 400 dollars. I like what I've heard from Colorsound wahs,
the phasers I yet don't know. A cool pedal, but I have already bought
too much stuff that I hope to sell more expensive ...to finance a nice
vibrolux amp ...that I'll probably pass on this one.

The seller wants 200 bucks for it, so it's hard to estimate how big a
bargain it would be ;-)
