Great Practise Amp alternative...

Hi Guys

I have just unearthed a little goldmine for low powered /high drive
practice that doesn't sound like a wasp in a tin or require extra
space in your studio/practise area - an old set of Cambridge
Soundworks computer speakers!

Yes it might sound odd, but I was given these stereo tweeter with
powered sub woofer units as they were 'beige and only stereo - not 5:1
or surroundsound' and I was going to bung them on eBay. BUT I had been
painstakingly reprogramming my BOSS Efx unit through the headphones
recently, and came the time to hear through my normal amp, and
typically, all the 'ambience was lost. So I lobbed in the connector to
these speakers (which I had by now reprieved from eBay as actually
work as reasonable monitors for my keyboards too) and was totally
amazed at their capability and ability to handle relatively high
output from the guitar. I still have to lower the volume or I get
feedback on the semi!

Best bit is, none of the subtlety of the patches is lost at low volume
and when playing with my semi acoustic, I get a wierd 'surround'
effect of hearing the clear tones of the semi acoustically AND the
Efx'd tones from the speakers in actual stereo - simultaneously! Its
like another band member playing alongside - but with none of the
noodling off annoyingly every five minutes!

Ever tried light finger picking (or a jazz vibe) with full-on
overdrive accompanying you at conversation levels???-sounds brilliant!

Mark

Hey! I do the same right here at my computer desk using an Altec Lansing
PC speaker system and the digital output on my Boss GT-6.

I use a Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 5.1 surround set-up as part of my rig
for recording and use my modellers s/pdif outputs.
They do sound great with my v-amp..

I also have a Digitech GNX3000...when i bought it i played around with it
using headphones..i wasn't that impressed with it.
However, the other day i decided to plug into my Peavey amp and it sounds a
lot better...
