~$4/gal gas, what annoys me most so far.

~$4/gal gas, what annoys me most so far.

1) All the 1970s sloth idiotcy. Because of these fools I can't tie one
green light into the next as much as before. This means more stopping,
longer trips, more congestion, lower fuel economy.

2) People who haven't been on a bicycle in decades. I have never seen
so many wrong-ways, gutter riders, and/or sidewalk riders this early in
the season especially when it's been so damn cold. I just got back from
a ride and had two wrong-ways coming right at me that I had dodge. This
morning's drive to work in the rain, I had to block a gutter
rider/passer as to not get stuck waiting behind him to pass.

3) More driver asshattery towards bicyclists. I've had starts to the
season this bad before, but not for a number of years. I can only assume
it's that they are pissed off more than usual? Maybe because of 2) above
or just because the price of gas has increased the sense of entitlement.

4) Additional revenue enhancement activities. Because fuel prices and
general idiotcy of government and the federal reserve have slowed the
economy it seems the governments' highwaymen are out in greater numbers.

5) This may not be related to higher fuel prices, but instead of
parents picking up their precious little snowflakes at the school in the
family SUV they are riding the bus and geting curb side service. It's
becoming typical to have to stop and wait for some school bus picking up
or dropping off the snowflakes at the end of every home's driveway that
has one. Considering when I leave work that has to be some sort of
activity bus for HS kids. When I was in HS the activity bus dropped me
off over a half mile from home. Everyone who lived in a square mile area
was dropped off at the same spot.

6) Trucker driving is worse. Standard trucker idiotcy, just more of it.
Driving in the left lane(s), changing lanes without looking, slothing
along and micropassing. In construction zones (see #9) truckers won't
stay in the lanes they are restricted to and instead drive side by side
blocking the road. A micro passes B followed by B micropassing A, rinse,
repeat.

7...8) I'm sure there is more to come as this condition persists.

9) Typical IL road construction idiotcy has I294 and the edens torn up
at the same time. Worse yet they've torn up the section of I294 that
parallels the edens. The ISP is using their speed camera van. This means
more congestion and more wasted fuel. This isn't directly related to gas
prices but one would think that they would improve in light of higher
fuel costs.

10) Gasoline is nearly $4.00/gal for regular unleaded. The price of gas
being nearly $4/gal is probably the least annoying aspect of it.

Well, I hope I get through the adjustment period for my new spuds before
this spreads here. Yes, I bought them on Sunday but only got a short
ride in last night due to the weather here being a bit, um, moist. To
put it mildly. I'd be royally peeved if I dropped it because I had to
stop for some knucklehead and didn't have the "unclip" reflex down.

On the upside, I feel like I just lost 20 lbs. climbing hills. (such
hills as I have here, that is.) That's a Good Thing.
