you must be a terrorist if...

you must be a terrorist if...

I have a swiss army knife on a pen...

great for tightening the pins that hold video cables to the backs of
monitors and computer systems....

at some airports I have no problems with my pen... It's a pen with a
swiss army knife (small one with scissors and a 1 inch blade) on top
makes nice letter opener.... while at others like JFK terminal 7 I got
treated like I was a terrorist. I also travel with a red swiss army
knife in my pocket... always have it's a tool for me the scissors, the
screwdriver etc....

I fix computers and its easier to carry the swiss army knife than a tool
belt...

I hate today's security, makes me feel VERY INSECURE, don;t treat me and
everyone else like we are terrorists because we are not, we just want to
get to where we are going...

I once said "why do you want me to put that" (luggage cart) "through
there" (x-ray). "There's no way I could put plastic explosives in ther
and you can't detect that stuff anyway" This was back in 1992 when that
was a true statement... of course having a terrible head cold did not
help either... I now carry cold medicine with me in my brief case...
today, I am more careful now because airport people now dont have brains

Is it so hard to put it in a checked bag? That is what I do.

The ban on knives makes more sense than the one on nail clippers etc.

I was on a flight in the mid-90s landing in Geneva where a passenger was
killed (suicide admittedly) with a Swiss army knife, the longer blade type.
That helped put me off knives on planes.... even if it leaves them on
trains, buses, etc...

Re: you must be a terrorist if...

a swiss army knife is somehting I (and many others) carry every day,
In the mornings, like clockwork, I scoop up the knife along with my
keys, wallet, and a few pens.

most people who carry pocket knives or swiss army knives, carry them
because they are tools, usefel, not because they are TERRORISTS...

I was driving and a heater hose burst, because I had hte knife, I was
able to quickly bypass the heater and continue on my way... the swiss
army knife is great for many things..

my point treat us like people, not like we are terrorists, we, the
general population are not, just want to get wher we are going!!

I unsed to fly very frequently and carried my knife and keys, no
problem, that was when security measure were reasonable and when it was
fun to fly...

NOW, If I go some place by air, it's usually when I am the pilot, not on
a commercial plane. I can go where I want when I want and flying is lots
of fun too... IT's just on the more distant trips that I take a
commercial flight.

I used to carry a pocket knife too. I carried small tools in my carry-
on. 9/11 did away with that luxury, and the new rules, however stupid
they seem, have to be followed. You claim you're a pilot. You should
know this better than most.

Re: you must be a terrorist if...

I usually fly Cessna's, not commercial jets.

be reasonable be fair is all I am asking and be smart too

For the private pilot it's not so bad as for the commercial or airline
passenger. I just need to be sure I have an airport issued badge visable
should anyone ask. So far, no one has cared to ask.

I will show up at the rental place, do the weight and balance, get the
flight weather, then am handed the keys to the plane.

my intention is to get the plane fly from point a to point B, or go out
to the practice area, so some maneuvers and safely return...

I have noticed that some airports where one was able to walk up to the
aircraft, they are now installing perimeter fences. Gila Bend Arizona is
an example of that. I think about the only ting the fence will
accomplish is is will keep "pedro" (illegals who cross through the
desert) from getting near the airport. It's not the illegals who mean
trouble, it's the smugglers who often will ambush another smuggler and
steal their cache of illegals.

And I'll be the first to agree that it's not too much to ask.

They're worried that terrorists are comming in with the illegals.
(easist way) I've often stood in a crowded immigration line thinking
that if I had just gone down the road a bit, and jumped the fence, I'd
be home by now.

The fence was their first attempt at security. After 9/11, they
worried about terrorists using small private planes to deliver bio-
weapons, (Crop dusting aircraft were suspected especially.)

Lets face it. The TSA is running around in circles, with their thumbs
up their asses, wondering what to look for next. Most security people
have absolutely no idea what they're looking for. Now add the
"profiling" issue. I get patted down on every trip, (along with the
90 year old lady in the wheelchair.) while "Achmed" walks through
security like it isn't even there.

Re: you must be a terrorist if...

Exactly...
EVERYONE WHO READS THIS NEEDS TO WRITE THEIR CONGRESMAN OR US
REPRESENATIVE... If you just travel to the us, write whoever represents
the area you visit or where you do business...

GET RID OF THE TSA, Make flying fun again. Don't treat the rest of us
like we intend on blowing up a plane.. because we do not, we just want
to get where we are going... that's it....

the TSA is a WASTE of money, Any money wasted here could be better used
to better educate our children, improve our highways, also to improve
the air traffic system. The patriot act must go too....

Of course GOVERNMENT GOVERNS BEST WHEN IT GOVERNS LEAST. a smaller
government is better... it puts less of a drain on the economy...

Please do write and express your feelings

thanks

Why would he? A private pilot can take a knife on board with him. Or
enjoy a good stogie mid-flight.

Enjoy it while you can...news reports indicate TSA is diligently
working on ways and means to require security protocols be enforced on
general aviation as well as commercial and I know from other sources
that will mean closing many rural and unmanned airstrips if "necesary"
and possibly eliminating VFR flying entirely...can't have you
hijacking your own four seater now can we?

There is a rumor they are going to ban rental vans in order to prevent
them from being used to carry explosives.

There's not much call for in flight computer repairs. Put it in your
checked baggage.

If you don't want to be treated like a terrorist, don't try to take
banned items on the flight like a terrorist would do.

What items banned on 9/11 were used by the hijackers?

Doesn't matter. I was refering to *today*.

What suggests to you that terrorists try to take Swiss Army knives onto
aeroplanes?

What suggests to you that they won't? I was answering a general
statement. The exact item is secondary.
