1000 Rapists are on the run in Thailand

1000 Rapists are on the run in Thailand

Police to go after 1,000 rape suspects

Wanted on warrants going back 5 years

WASSAYOS NGARMKHAM

Police will crack down on more than 1,000 rape suspects wanted on
arrest warrants in nine provinces surrounding Bangkok, to mark
National Women's Day today. Pol Maj-Gen Wut Liptapanlop, deputy chief
of Police Region 1, said the campaign against suspects who have fled
since arrest warrants, dating back to 2002, were issued would be
launched tomorrow, starting in Samut Prakan.

He expected that at least 200 suspects would be caught in the two-
month crackdown.

It will be the first crackdown on rape suspects - one area of
operations which police admit they have been lax to enforce.

Previous police operations have focused mainly on other criminals,
particularly hired gunmen and thieves, allowing suspects wanted on
rape charges to avoid arrest.

Pol Maj-Gen Wut said he has ordered police to prepare lists of
warrants issued for the arrest of suspected rapists in nine provinces
Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Ang Thong, Sing
Buri, Chai Nat, Saraburi and Lop Buri.

Figures showed that Samut Prakan had the highest number of rape cases,
with more than 200 during the past five years, followed by Samut
Prakan and Nonthaburi.

Pol Maj-Gen Wut said the crackdown on rape suspects had to be launched
urgently because more than 60% of the population in the nine provinces
were women.

More than 70% of the female population in these provinces work in
factories, particularly in Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani,
which are adjacent to Bangkok.

If the suspects remain at large, female workers will be in danger, he
said.

Rape and sexual assault cases against women caused psychological harm
to female workers, and affected businesses, some of which had
relocated.

Some foreign entrepreneurs had moved their production bases out of the
country after their female employees were raped, he said.

He said if rapes took place in provinces which housed a World Heritage
site and historic places, such as Ayutthaya, this would drive tourists
away and ruin the reputation of the country.

Last Friday, Samut Prakan police arrested two men suspected of gang-
raping an under-aged girl, and issued arrest warrants for three other
suspects.

Those five suspects were accused of luring a 16-year-old girl to a
townhouse in the Pruksa 15 housing estate and gang-raping her on Feb
27.

A female friend of the suspects videoed the rape, police said.

I assume your information is to show how "bad" of a place Thailand is.
However:

According to the data I found, Samut Prakan province has a population of
over 1 million people. 40 per year for a population of 1 million, gives
a rate of .04 per 1000 or about 1/10 the US rate.

The US rate in 2004 was .4 per thousand, according to
* w w w .washingtonpost . com /wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/18/AR2006061800610.html

And... the article quoted stated Samut Prakan province had the "highest
number" of cases.

Do you want to downplay the seriousness of that crime?
Even if the numbers here seem very low compared with the US, these are
still 40 cases to much.

I was downplaying the need to report it to the newsgroup I read it in,
rec.travel.air. I didn't say it was a serious crime, simply questioning
why this particular report needed to be posted to rta. It sounded like
the OP was trying to get people to not visit Thailand.

It's not his first such post on Thailand.

He has also posted the following on rec.travel.air
"Farangs still dying in Pattaya"
'Bird flu flares up again !! "
"REWARD for info on Russian victims killer "
"Machete attack Phuket"
"BANGKOK AIRPORT Baggage thieves warning "
"Jap females flocking to BKK for the hot cock More options "

There are several problems with citing statistics using cross-cultural
comparisons. One needs to include (at least) the accessibility of the police
force to the victim, cultural influences on the stigmatization of the
victim, and indeed the propensity to report the crime in the first place.

You may find it's at least an order of magnitude incorrect based on some
research I've done on rural, or 3rd world areas.

Numbers are just that.....

So, the police is going after Deckard who uses to travel to Pattaya to rape
13 old girls with his French mates ....

Good riddance, although I doubt he will be so reluctant to enter the Kingdom
knowing that the police is waiting for his arrival to explain some other
things like giving an anti-government lecture at a Bangkok university while
the country is under military power.

Re: 1000 Rapists are on the run in Thailand

Thailand used to be an area where a man could get a young girl for a
period of love making. Now its like the rest of the world,
trying to get sexual intercourse worked out of society. The world is
made up of mostly women and soon they WILL control everything...all they
have to do is just put their minds to it and DO IT!

We need the young girls for our entertainment interest. They get well
paid for this service.
