Cheap fares to Europe?

Cheap fares to Europe?

Has anyone noticed the outrageously high fares to Europe? Has
anyone seen any fare sales for spring travel? The airlines are sure
tightening their belt. Then there's the damn euro versus the dollar.

Thanks,
Bruce

It sort of depends where you are flying from. Ryanair have lots of flights
at £0.01 plus taxes.

Not in so many words but his IP address is in the US and he was
talking about "high fares to Europe". Since the UK is already in
Europe, he was probably referring to fares from the US to Europe.

His writing style is also quite American.

You tell 'im, hummingbird!

C'mon John T, it's YOUR responsibility to know that everyone on the Internet
is (or SHOULD BE!!) American, and that Americans have the absolute right to
carry on as if there's nobody else here.

Get with the program, you goddam furriner!

Thank you. I was trying to construct a reply to Hummingbird which I thought
he would comprehend, but didn't have sufficient command of the language.
Your response expresses the sentiment perfectly.

Well, you could always take some English lessons.

Which sentiment is that then?

The OP may confirm what he meant by his original post but
my money's on it being as I described.

It's hardly a 'damn euro' issue. I think the euro-vs-dollar problem
is down to your president's spending deficits and trade deficits.
The unregulated financial markets adjust FX rates accordingly.

As other people have pointed out, it's usually helpful to specify where
you're flying from (most of us don't bother tracing an IP address to get a
poster's location).

So, now we've established you're in the US - where exactly where you
looking to fly from and to? Hawaii, New York, Washington? Keflavik,
Frankfurt, Moscow, London? What dates?

I would also bear in mind the high fuel costs, the relative weakness of
the dollar, and the dates of Easter (with accompanying school holidays,
which always hike the prices).

But no, I haven't noticed most of the prices being unexpectedly high.

No. That's because they aren't.

With a bit of shopping, they seem like a bargain to me:

In 1980, I flew RT from LAX to Franfurt and back from Heathrow to LAX
for $700...tomorrow I am flying LAX to FLR (Florence) via Munich for a
RT fare of $900..if you took off all the taxes and junk the government
slams us with now, the fare would be closer to $700 RT.

Sure seems like a hell of a bargain to me, paying essentially the same
fare for a longer trip 27 years later.

Maybe the seats are closer together..anyone know what the seat pitch
in coach was on a TWA 747 back then? But other than that, especially
since I make almost ten times as much money now as in 1980..I am not
griping about the cost of the ticket.

Accounting for inflation, 1980's $700 would now be $1874.

It's really not even close to the same amount; it's now much,
much cheaper in constant dollars.
