Delayed Baggage with Air Canada

After reading throug some of the posts, I thought I would shae my own
recent experience. I was travelling between two major Canadian cities
for a 3 week vacation to visit family, and my bag did not make it. I
filed my missing claim at the airport. Re-assured that 90% of all
delayed bags get returned in 24 hours (from what I read) I did not
stress too much. However, with only the clothes on my back, after my
bag did not get delivered the next day, I had to buy some drug store
items and some clothes. After 5 days, and many frustrating calls to
Air Canada's baggage claims department, I filed a lost baggage claim.
BTW, the agents at the Air Canada delayed baggage number they provide
simply read the standard stuff that you can get from the website and
are absolutely useless. I asked them if I could speak to someone about
my lost bag and they said that I couldn't. They only communicate by
fax or written letter (Can you believe that?). I almost fell off my
chair.

After day 7 (and losts of replaced clothes), since I thought my bag
was gone, my bag was finally located. It never left the departure
airport and was apparently sitting on the floor for a week along with
hundreds of other bags.

I contacted Amex whom the ticket was purchasaed with and they provide
up to 500 for a delayed baggage claim but they need a letter frm AC.
Since AC does not provide phone numbers, I had to fax a letter to AC
requesting this? Who knows if they have received it or not
(unbelievable)! I have not heard back from them yet, it has been 2
weeks. I am also requesting AC cover the other amount over the 500
dollars that I have spent. I will see how that goes.

I cannot believe that a major airline company like Air Canada can
operate like this. You have to communicate via fax or letter! Doesn't
the government regulate something here? I cannot be the only person
who is frustarted by these guys. I have never seen such poor customer
service from a company in my entire life. That is what happens when
there is little competition in an un-regulated industry.
