Oakland Airport to San francisco

Is there a bus, coach or train that can take you directly from Southwest
Airlines at the Oakland airport to downtown San Francisco ? I do not want
to make reservations on Southwest until I find out. I do not want to drag
bags needlessly all over the area.
thanks

There is a bus called AirBART, which runs between the airport and the local
BART station. You would then change to BART to ride into the city.

The alternative is to take a shared shuttle bus, which would be more
expensive, and perhaps a bit faster. You need to arrange those yourself.

Here are links to some further info:

Depending on the time of day. There are times when surface
transport will get trapped in the big-time traffic jams to and on
the Bay Bridge. In general, AirBART and BART will be faster. But
a great deal depends on just where in San Francisco the traveler
is going.

It would be quicker to swim across the bay. ;-)

The transit agency recently stocked the bay with sharks.

Probably at the bequest of the taxi companies...

Quite easy considering the number of sharks at the agency.

The obvious public transportation method is to get on the AirBART bus
that goes to the Coliseum BART station, then take the BART subway to
downtown San Francisco.

AirBART fare is $3.00. BART from Coliseum to downtown San Francisco
(Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell, or Civic Center) is $3.35.

AirBART information: http://www.bart.gov/guide/airport/oak.asp
BART information: http://www.bart.gov

An alternative to the AirBART is AC Transit #50, which costs $1.75,
but comes less frequently (be sure to ask the driver if the bus is
going the right direction for your trip if you are not sure).

BART. Take a shuttle east to the BART station and a BART train to SFO.
Color coded routes and clear signs make it fairly simple even for
those who never used the system before.
