Why does Hotwire add on more taxes and fees?????

Hey all

I was researching rates for rental cars in Fort Lauderdale. When doing
this I the following results for a 1 day compact rental from the
airport not using coupons or discounts.

Enterprise:
Rental Fee $19.00
Taxes and Fees $ 9.92
Total Cost $28.92

Hotwire:
Rental Fee $17.95
Taxes and Fees $14.05
Total Coast $32.00

Just wonder why Hotwire is adding more taxes and fees on the cost of
the rental than say Enterprise. Also wondering if anyone has used
Hotwire or even Priceline recently for a rental car in Fort Lauderdale
and which rental company they ended up renting with.

Hotwire is probably adding their fee. They don't get commissions.

Hotwire and Priceline use major Brand name Car rental agencies,
Between them I have received Budget Hertz Alamo Enterprise and Avis.

Priceline and Hotwire charge their own Service Fee for themselves.
They act as the middleman in the transaction, hence the fee.
The fee is a minimal compared to the savings you CAN get using either
one of those companies.
Priceline has a different formula to set fees for your requests than
Hotwire does.
They are similar but not always the same price.
The one good thing is that the FEE is charged just once per booking.
For a car rental or hotel stay, it the same fee for no matter how many
days you rent or stay.
The bad thing is that if you rent just one day, you pay the same fee
as the next guy who rented for 2 weeks.
It averages out to usually be 5-7 dollars.
Within those numbers, SOMETIMES its less expensive to rent
traditionally.

As others said, they are free to add in their own service fees. $5 is
pretty reasonable, as long as they fully disclose it before purchase.

I think that price difference was atypical. I've found that hotwire
almost always beats the original company's prices for rental cars,
usually significantly. And I'm talking about final cost.
