I'd be buying new ones for myself so my daughter could use hers.

Can I safely assume that the problem is just with that particular
headphone and that another set or brand would work correctly?

I was assuming it might be a problem with that specific pair, not with
the model. However, if you could be specific on the model, perhaps
someone here can tell you if they had a similar issue or had no problem.

It's Sony. I'm not sure of which model.

I only have a Bose QC2 that I got for Christmas, but I haven't noticed
any XM radio issues.

Nice. I don't know if I'd use it enough to justify the cost but it's a
possibility.
