I don't see why a pilot has any obligation to be nice to me; that's not his
job. What worries me in this case is not a lack of courtesy, but his highly
emotional behavior and the effect it may have on his judgement and competence
while he is flying. If he cannot stay calm while on the job, he needs to find
a different job.

You are absolutely correct. Demeanor, interaction with the passengers and
company image are an intricate part of every airline pilot's job, and many
have lost that job for violating these conditions of employment. Those who
believe an airline pilot's job simply involves flying the aircraft and
nothing else are deeply ill informed.

When I was a patent attorney (before I retired), my job wasn't to be
polite and respectful; it was to get people patents on inventions.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't have stayed in my job long if I had spouted
obscenities at my clients as this pilot apparently did. The same
applies across the board.
