Obscene pilot forces Northwest to cancel flight

I don't see why a pilot has any obligation to be nice to me; that's not his
job. What worries me in this case is not a lack of courtesy, but his highly
emotional behavior and the effect it may have on his judgement and competence
while he is flying. If he cannot stay calm while on the job, he needs to find
a different job.

Likewise if he can't be polite and respectful to those who make his job
possible.

Being polite and respectful is not his job. His job is to fly the plane.
Even FAs don't have the job of being polite and respectful; their job is to
keep passengers safe.

bullshit. The Airlline Pilots Association is just down the street from
me. Want to place any bets that the pilots are specifically
instructed to treat all passengers with respect and to act
professional at all times?

That's not their job. Many people receive various incidental instructions in
their places of work, but that doesn't make such instructions essential parts
of their jobs.

I'll take an impolite but excellent pilot over a polite but rotten pilot any
day.

hogwash. You can have an excellent AND polite pilot.. This isn't an
either/or situation.

You are absolutely correct. Demeanor, interaction with the passengers and
company image are an intricate part of every airline pilot's job, and many
have lost that job for violating these conditions of employment. Those who
believe an airline pilot's job simply involves flying the aircraft and
nothing else are deeply ill informed.

When I was a patent attorney (before I retired), my job wasn't to be
polite and respectful; it was to get people patents on inventions.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't have stayed in my job long if I had spouted
obscenities at my clients as this pilot apparently did. The same
applies across the board.

Any other stupid comments from YOU, dodo?

When did you abandon your policy of courtesy?

When did you abandon your policy of coming here to discuss aviation? I
see nothing in the above response that discusses aviation. Why are you
responding with this question to a name on a screen?

When I was confronted by dodos like you. That never happened during my
career; the people I dealt with had at least average intelligence.

True courtesy is the courtesy you show towards people you don't like. Anyone
can be polite to someone who is likable. And I'm not sure why unintelligent
people would be less deserving of courtesy than intelligent people.

That's just grand. You, the poster child for trolls and assholes, giving
advice on courtesy.

I realize it's convenient for you to demand courtesy toward YOU, even
when you don't demonstrate significant intellect.
