Vehicle Speed Sensor

Hi all,

I took my 1991 Honda Accord to the dealer recently becuase sometimes
when I drive, the sport light starts flashing, the speedometer reads
zero, and the check engine comes on. The dealer asked me to replace
the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). To minimize the expenses, I am
wondering if I could do this repair by myself.

The car is 17 years old, so I do not want to buy any expensive parts.
Could someone please recommend me some website(s) where I can purchase
the sensor at a cheap price?

After doing much searching, I think I have finally located the sensor
under the hood. I have marked it in the following picture:

http :// www .cis.jhu.edu/~fijoy/vss.jpg

Could any of you please confirm that what I located is indeed the VSS?
If this is not the VSS, then where is it?

Thank you very much,
Fijoy

Searching on ebay for 'accord 91 speed sensor' shows pics plus price. It
goes for about $13 + shipping.

See instructions here: http :// tinypic,com /view.php?pic=2n997j9&s=3

Use the photo at ebay that Vlad suggested. Also, go to
www .bkhondaparts, com , on the left click on "Honda Accord
Sensor," filter by year 1991, click on "Honda Accord Speed
Sensor Assembly," then click on "Diagram."

More info on checking the VSS appears at the Factory Service
Manual free online at
http :// www .honda.co.uk/car/owner/workshop.html. See the
"Fuel and Emissions" section.

Not hard to do although a little close in there. I did mine quite a
few years ago. IIRC there is a loose key shaft involved, be careful
you don't lose it, I don't think the replacement part comes with it.
