Re: yellow dashboard light (the light showing an engine)Assuming this is the "Check Engine" light, it might mean there was a
problem, but it cleared itself. We had a 1986 Accord. When the check
engine light came on, there was a second light under the driver's seat,
which would flash a code in "dots and dashes." If you had a book with the
codes in it, you could look up the problem yourself, and possibly remedy it
at little or no cost. I'd see if you have the under seat light. With other
older cars, you could use a code reader which typically was just a device to
short certain terminals in a connector under the hood. This would cause the
Check Engine light itself to flash the fault code. In all cars since about
1998, there is a connector under the steering column that can be connected
to a pretty inexpensive code reader (by federal law, one code reader works
on all newer cars) that will give you the Check Engine light codes. On
later model cars of all makes (from about 1998 on) any number of faults can
trigger the check engine light. Depending on the nature of the fault, some
will trigger the light on the first appearance of the fault, and it will
stay on until the fault is cleared, others will trigger the light only if
the fault occurs more than once, or if it persists.. You might also try

Good Luck.
